AROUND THE LEAGUE

Lucky Number 13 ...The Waterloo Black Hawks won a two-game weekend series against the Fargo Force to extend their winning streak to 13 games, setting a new team record. Eight of the wins during the streak have come on the road and the Black Hawks currently lead the USHL with 15 total road wins this season. Cal Petersen made 19 saves in Friday's 3-1 victory to earn his 10th consecutive win and collect the 45th win of his USHL career. Cam Johnson then made 20 saves in Saturday's 6-2 win against his former team to push the Waterloo winning streak to 13. It was also gave the Black Hawks points in 19 straight games (18-0-1) which ties the USHL Tier 1 era (2002-present) record for consecutive non-regulation losses that was set by the Fargo Force in the 2009-10 season (16-0-3).

Road Rules ...The Indiana Ice earned a 7-1 victory against the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday to push their winning streak on the road to 10 consecutive games. It established a new team record for the Ice and is the longest road winning streak in the USHL since the Green Bay Gamblers won 11 straight away from home during the 2009-10 season. Jacob Pritchard scored a pair of goals while Hayden Stewart made 17 saves to improve to 2-0-0 since being acquired by the Ice. The Ice would have their road streak come to an end in Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, but Indiana has still earned points in 19 of their last 20 games (16-1-3).

Saints in Seventh Heaven ...Two weekend victories plus another on Tuesday night extended the win streak for the Dubuque Fighting Saints to seven games, their longest win streak since opening the season with seven consecutive victories. They have outscored the opposition 29-12 during the win streak, including 9-2 over the two weekend victories. Five of the victories during their streak have come on the road, and the Saints are now first in the Eastern Conference with 24 total victories this season. Max McHugh had a goal in both weekend games, giving him five tallies over a span of seven contests, while Jacob Benson scored two goals, including the game-winner, in Saturday's 3-1 victory against the Omaha. Seamus Malone has tallied a goal in four of the last five games, including his League-leading fourth shorthanded score on Tuesday. Seven different Saints have scored the game-winning goal during their seven-game win streak.

Home Cooking ...The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders extended their home win streak to five games when Frederik Tiffels netted the winner in overtime of the 2-1 win over the Indiana Ice on Saturday. Tiffels now has seven points (3g, 4a) in six games since being acquired by the Riders. It was the 20th win of the season for the Riders, 13 of which have come on home ice.

Rallying on the Road ...The Des Moines Buccaneers earned a 3-2 win against the Lincoln Stars on Saturday as the first goal of the season for defenseman Connor Schmidt proved to be the game-winner. The Bucs are now 3-1-1 over their last five road games after losing their previous six away from home.

Mr. Clutch ...Forward Connor Hurley netted a goal in overtime for the Green Bay Gamblers in Saturday's 2-1 victory against Team USA. The Buffalo Sabres 2013 NHL Draft pick has recorded 12 points (6g, 6a) in 11 games since being acquired by the Gamblers, including points in each of the last nine contests. Three of his six goals with the team have been game-winners.

Just in Time ...Chicago Steel forward Robbie Payne broke a 2-2 tie with only 46 seconds remaining in regulation to give his team a 3-2 victory over the Youngstown Phantoms. It was his first USHL game-winning goal and 11th overall tally of the season.

Leading Lancer ...Omaha Lancers forward Tyler Vesel scored his League-leading 28th goal of the season in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Dubuque. It is the most goals by a Lancers player since the 2009-10 season when Matt White tallied 35 goals and teammate Erik Haula also scored 28.

The Goal Standard ...One week after tying the Muskegon Lumberjacks team record for goals in a season, Matt Iacopelli netted two more on Sunday to move into first place with 27 goals through 37 games this season. It was his sixth multi-goal game of the year and second over the last three contests. His 27 goals are the second most in the USHL this season.

He's Got the Power ...Youngstown Phantoms forward J.J. Piccinich scored a goal on the power play in both weekend contests for his team. He leads the USHL with 12 power play goals this season and has already tied the team record set last season by Sam Anas. The 21 total goals by Piccinich are tied for third most in the League this season.

Noteworthy ...Defenseman Jordan Klimek netted his first USHL goal for the Dubuque Fighting Saints in their 6-1 win over Cedar Rapids on Friday...Mathias Israelsson made a season high 49 saves in his debut with the Fargo Force on Friday. It came during a 3-1 loss to his former team, the Waterloo Black Hawks...Green Bay Gamblers forward Matt Weis scored two goals in the 6-0 win over Chicago on Friday. The second goal was the 30th of his USHL career...Anthony Angello scored two goals, including the game-winner, for the Omaha Lancers in Friday's 3-1 victory over Sioux City. It was the League-leading 15th home win for the Lancers...Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Judd Peterson netted the 25th goal of his USHL career in Saturday's 2-1 overtime win against Indiana...Anders Bjork scored two goals for Team USA in Saturday's 7-0 win against Muskegon. He now has eight goals through 16 USHL contests, equaling his goal total in 38 USHL games last season...Ludvig Hoff scored his first USHL career goal for the Lincoln Stars in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to Tri-City...Waltteri Hopponen scored the lone goal for the Sioux City Musketeers in their 3-1 loss to Omaha on Friday. It was his fifth goal over the last five games, all of which have come on the road...Tony Calderone has scored a goal in three straight games for the Sioux Falls Stampede after tallying just one goal over the previous 12 contests.
