USHL Thrives During Hockey Weekend Across America

February 21, 2011 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release

Chicago, IL - As USA Hockey celebrated its "Hockey Weekend Across America" presented by Reebok, teams in the United States Hockey League celebrated by enjoying success both on and off the ice during one of the most exciting weekends of the 2010-11 regular season.

More than 50,000 fans attended USHL games over a three-day span, including a crowd of 6,328 in Omaha on Saturday to see the Lancers host the Lincoln Stars. It was third-highest attended game in the USHL this season. Less than 200 miles north in Sioux Falls, a sellout crowd of 4,764 - the first sellout of the Sioux Falls Arena in five years - saw their Stampede earn a 4-3 win against the Sioux City Musketeers.

The three days of games marked the second time in a span of three weeks that USHL teams collectively attracted more than 50,000 fans, this following the final weekend in January in which over 55,000 fans took in USHL action.

Fans were treated to stellar play on the ice in the 21st week of the regular season, which included 10 different USHL goaltenders recording shutouts during the week. With seven weeks and a total of 140 games remaining in the schedule, Eastern and Western Conference races are heating up as USHL teams pursue the opportunity to be one of 12 teams - six in each conference - to qualify for the new four-round Clark Cup Playoffs.
