March 19, 2018 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release

The United States Hockey League announced the Forward, Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week for Week 24 of the 2017-18 season. Team USA forward Jake Wise, Waterloo Black Hawks defenseman Ben Finkelstein and Youngstown Phantoms goaltender Wouter Peeters all earned weekly honors. Wise recorded six points in two games, including his first USHL hat trick, Finkelstein was named Defenseman of the Week for the second straight week thanks to a four-point weekend and Peeters recorded a 39-save shutout in his only appearance of the weekend. The USHL is America's only Tier 1 junior hockey league, and continues to lead the world in the advancement of Division I college hockey athletes.

Forward: Jake Wise - Team USA

2 GP: 3 goals, 3 assists, +5 rating

Wise dished out two assists in a 10-3 victory over the Madison Capitols on Thursday that helped Team USA become the first team this season to clinch a berth in the Clark Cup Playoffs. He then recorded four points, including his first career USHL hat trick, to lead the U18s to a two-game sweep of the Capitols on Friday. The Boston University commit has had a strong season, tallying 24 points (7G, 17A) in just 15 games, placing him eighth among all Team USA players in scoring. He is in the middle of a six-game point streak dating back to Mar. 2, with 13 points (5G, 8A) in that span, and has recorded at least one point in 11 of the 15 USHL games he has played in this season. The Reading, MA native is in his second USHL season and has recorded 35 points (9G, 26A) in 35 career games. Prior to his time with Team USA, Wise played for Central Catholic (USHS) in Massachusetts. He is eligible to be selected at the 2018 NHL Draft.

Defenseman: Ben Finkelstein - Waterloo Black Hawks

2 GP: 1 goal, 3 assists, +4 rating

Finkelstein scored his fourth goal of the season on Friday and dished out three assists on Saturday to help Waterloo to a pair of victories over Team USA's U17 team and put the Black Hawks atop the Western Conference standings. The Boston College commit continues to be one of the top point producers among USHL defensemen. In just 14 games, Finkelstein has recorded 22 points (4G, 18A), tops among all Waterloo defensemen in scoring and just outside the top-15 among USHL blueliners. He has extended his point streak to six games and has only gone without a point in a game twice in his 14 appearances with the Black Hawks. This is the second week in a row and third time this season that Finkelstein has been named Defenseman of the Week, previously winning the award on Jan. 29 and Mar. 12. A native of South Burlington, VT, Finkelstein was selected in the seventh round, 195th overall by the Florida Panthers at the 2016 NHL Draft. He joined Waterloo earlier this season and played for St. Lawrence University (NCAA), the Boston Jr. Bruins (MHSL) and Kimball Academy (USHS) prior to his time in the USHL.

Goaltender: Wouter Peeters - Youngstown Phantoms

1-0-0-0, 0.00 GAA, 1.000 SV%

Peeters made the most of his lone opportunity over the weekend, stopping all 39 shots he faced to lead the Phantoms to a 1-0 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers on Saturday night and earn his second USHL shutout. The Belgian netminder has earned a victory in six of his last eight appearances dating back to Jan. 27 and hasn't allowed more than two goals in each of his last three outings going back to Mar 4. He now sports a 12-9-2-1 record on the season, his first in the USHL. Prior to his time in the USHL, Peeters played for Jokerit U20, RB Hockey, EC Salzburg and the Turnhout White Caps in Europe. He was selected in the third round, 83rd overall by the Chicago Blackhawks at the 2016 NHL Draft and was chosen by the Phantoms in the fifth round, 76th overall in the 2017 USHL Phase II Draft.
