
USA Takes Silver at Viking Cup

Team USA fell to Finland in the Gold Medal game of the Viking Cup final in Camrose, Alberta Sunday night 8-2. Despite the loss four members of the Waterloo Black Hawks organization will be bringing home Silver Medals for their efforts in representing their country. Joe Pavelski (Plover, WI), Mike Radja (Yorkville, IL) Head Coach P.K. O'Handley and Trainer Todd Klein were all key members of the squad.
In the Gold Medal game Radja gave the U.S. the 1-0 lead after one on his second goal of the tournament with an assist from Pavelski. Finland responded with the games next six goals on their way to the victory. Radja assisted on the only other U.S. goal. He was named the Team USA's Player of the Game for his goal and assist effort. With the win Finland avenged an earlier 4-0 loss to the U.S. in pool play.
In the tournament Radja registered six points on a pair of goals and four assists, while Pavelski had five points on two goals and three assists. Black Hawks Head Coach O'Handley was a the Director of Player Personal for the team along with being one of the three coaches on the staff, while Klein served as the Head Trainer for the U.S. squad. This is the third medal for the U.S. in four years that they have participated in the Viking Cup.
