
Upstate Heat Defeats Gwinnett Majic, 80-78

Upstate Heat proved to be a contender after an 80-78 victory over the Gwinnett Majic, in the World Basketball Association Exposure League (WBA) exhibition game Friday, in Buford, GA.
Gwinnett, the two-time defending WBA champions led 21-20 in the first quarter and 40-36 at halftime. Upstate fought to keep the score close and managed to tie the game 78-78 with 5.8 seconds left on the clock, in the fourth quarter. Titus Lucas made two free throws after drawing a foul to put Upstate ahead by two points that led to the win.
Michael Corpening, Trey Britton and Titus Lucas scored 60 of 80 points in the exhibition game. Corpening finished with 21 points, Britton at 19 points and Lucas at 10 points.
B.J. Puckett, the reigning WBA most valuable player, led Gwinnett with 21 points and three rebounds. Lance Storrs netted 10 points and Andrew Dikas with 9 points.
Gwinnett felt the game exposed the lack of cohesiveness present on the team.
"It was a tough night for our team", said Brandon Williams, the Gwinnett Majic owner. "We struggled to find a rhythm between our new players and our old players that have played for us in the previous seasons".
