The Gwinnett Majic, the defending champions of the World Basketball Association Exposure League (WBA), used a big second quarter to propel themselves to a 131-107 victory over the Franklin (Tenn.) Knights Friday night in Buford, Ga.
Gwinnett led 39-33 after the opening quarter before outscoring the Knights 31-21 in the second period to take a commanding 70-54 lead into the halftime break. The Majic contined to extend their lead in the second half and cruised to the victory.
B.J. Puckett led Gwinnett with 31 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Teammate Javon Randolph had a double-double of his own, netting 21 points and handing out 10 assists. Also reaching double figures for Gwinnett were Frank Davis (19 points), Mike Sloan (17 points, five assists, five rebounds) and Patrick Shokpeka (16 points, eight rebounds).
Myles Thrash paced Franklin with a game-high 35 points (on 14-of-21 shooting), five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jerrell Houston had 22 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals, Eddie Ard had 21, five rebounds and four assists and Charles Little tossed in 11 in the loss.
