Wichita Wind Surge News Release
The Wichita Wind Surge return home for a six-game series against the Frisco RoughRiders on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. It's the first-ever meeting between these two clubs. The Surge (26-17) split their six-game series at Corpus Christi.
THE DIVISION: The Surge is in second place, a half-game behind Tulsa. The first half ends on June 26th and the Wind Surge still have seven meetings head to head with the Drillers.
THE HIT-MAN- Catcher Chris Williams extended his hitting streak to 12 games, longest this season with the Wind Surge. He is 17x43, batting .385 with 3 home runs and 10 RBI, 8 runs and 10 walks. The 12-game hit streak is the longest active streak in the league.
WALLY WORLD- Matt Wallner has 36 RBI, fourth-most in the league. His 9 home runs are tied for eighth in the league. He is batting .316 (25x79) in May with 6 HR and 24 RBI.
OPENING STATEMENTS - The Wind Surge are 20-4 when scoring the game's first run, and 6-12 when the opponent scores the opening run.
FIREWORKS- 27 combined runs scored Saturday night are the most ever in a Wind Surge game. 13 runs scored in a game is also the most Wichita has scored in defeat. The Surge lost 13-12 last August 5th against Midland also had a 12-10 defeat in Tulsa last June 10th as only two times to score double digits in a loss. The 18-8 win in NW Arkansas was most runs in a game prior to last night.
ROAD WARRIORS - The Wind Surge has the league's best road record at 15-8. and have won 15 of their last 23 road games.
NEED FOR SPEED- Wichita is 64 for 77 in stolen base attempts this season, second in the Texas League. Austin Martin is second in the league with 20 bags and DeShawn Keirsey is 6th in the league with 13 stolen bags.
THE ROSTER - The Surge made a few roster moves on Monday. Wichita added catcher Jair Camargo and pitcher Denny Bentley from Class A Cedar Rapids. Outfielder Kennie Taylor has been reassigned to Cedar Rapids. On Sunday, Wichita activated infielder Eddy Julien from the injured list and promoted pitcher Austin Schulfer to Triple-A. Schulfer pitched in 15 games, 0.39 ERA, allowing one earned run in 23 innings pitched, and leads the Texas League with 7 saves. Ben Gross is also on the 7-day injured list.
PITCHING - The Wind Surge is second in the Texas League with a 4.70 team ERA, fourth-best ERA in May at 4.84. The team leads the league with 430 punchouts.
ABOUT FRISCO - The RoughRiders are affiliated with the Texas Rangers. The roster features eight players ranked in the MLB Top 30 Prospects including the number one prospect Jack Leiter. Leiter was the number one pick of the Rangers last season and was an integral part of Vanderbilt's College World Series Championship.
