Soo Greyhounds News Release
Do you know a child who would love to skate with the Soo Greyhounds or spend a fun-filled evening at the John Rhodes pool? Then mark Tuesday, November 25th on your calendar and join us for the Bell Celebrity Skate & Swim for Rotary Youth Projects Presented by Agero!
This three-hour event kicks off at 6:00pm at the John Rhodes, where kids can choose to skate, swim, or both. Admission requires participants collect at least $25 in pledges. Once registered, all participants are invited to take part in skating and/or swimming.
The Greyhounds will sign autographs and skate with participants until the end of the evening. Soo Greyhound Blake Speers participated in the Skate & Swim as a youth, and now he attends as a celebrity: "It was something I never could have dreamed of when I was younger and attending the skate. Guys like Trevor Daley, Petr Taticek and Tyler Kennedy were like heroes to me at that age and now for me attending it in their position it's a pretty special feeling just knowing how many of those young kids look up to our team." - Blake Speers
Individuals who collect the most pledges will win one of this year's amazing prizes (listed in order of distribution):
- Xbox One
- iPad Mini
- Bicycle from Canadian Tire
- Autographed Soo Greyhounds Jersey
- Autographed NHL Boston Bruins Brad Marchand jersey
- 5 watches courtesy of Savoy's Jewellers
- 8 backpacks courtesy of Bell
- 24 autographed Soo Greyhounds ball caps
- 5 pizzas courtesy of Chilly Willy's Sports Bar and Grill
- ALL participants who raise $150 or more will receive one free child pass to a Soo Greyhounds game (redeemable for either Friday, November 28 or Wednesday, December 10 games)
The Skate & Swim is also a great fundraising opportunity for teams. Participating teams (with at least 5 participants, each raising the minimum $25) will be awarded with a cheque for 50% of the money they raised. Any team that raises over $750 will also receive a pizza and bowling party at North Crest lanes. The top fundraising non-hockey team will win a Holiday Inn Express pool party including 3 pizzas.
Most importantly, money pledged goes towards local Rotary youth projects and helps raise funds for disabled children through Easter Seals Ontario. This 20 year old community tradition has raised over half a million dollars since its conception! With the community's help, whether through partaking in the event or pledging, this year's Bell Celebrity Skate & Swim Presented by Agero will be another success!
