Ottawa Renegades News Release
OTTAWA â Three of Ottawa's committed community organizations have partnered for "Pack the Park" as the nation's capital prepares to host the 2004 Grey Cup game in November.
The Ottawa Renegades, United Way/Centraide Ottawa and TELUS have joined forces for this exciting event, designed for people to support their Renegades football team and their community, and display their hometown pride in the countdown to the Canadian Football League's title game. The aim of the day is to raise funds for an important community organization and break the record for the highest attendance at a regular season sporting event in the City of Ottawa.
On October 30th, the Ottawa Renegades will host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the last home game of the season prior to the 2004 Grey Cup. The partnership between the three organizations for "Pack the Park" will have five dollars from every October 30th game ticket sold go to United Way/Centraide Ottawa.
"The Ottawa Renegades have been great supporters of this community since their inaugural season back in 2002," says Brad Watters, President and Alternate Governor of the Ottawa Renegades Football Club. "Partnering with the United Way/Centraide Ottawa is yet another opportunity for the Renegades to give back to our community."
Presented by TELUS, "Pack the Park" will be a complete fun-filled day of football and entertainment. The TELUS Tailgate Party will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Aberdeen Pavillion, adjacent to Frank Clair Stadium at Lansdowne Park. TELUS will also be presenting the half-time show featuring Colin James â one of Canada's best guitarists, who has solid over a million albums.
"At TELUS, we believe there are no limits to what you can achieve through spirited teamwork and strong partnerships focused on a common goal," says Michael Martin, Regional Vice President & Managing Director, TELUS Ottawa. "We're proud to be working with the Renegades and United Way/Centraide to make âPack the Park' a terrific celebration of Ottawa's community spirit."
Groups will be able to purchase blocks of tickets and all seating will be allocated according to group needs. Supporters and organizations that do purchase tickets in bulk will be recognized game day on the big screen Videoboard, on PA announcements, in newspaper advertisements and have the opportunity to win fabulous Renegades prize packages.
The regular season finale on October 30 will offer fans a sneak peek at the 2004 Grey Cup Stadium. More than 50,000 supporters will be able to take advantage of the temporarily-expanded Lansdowne Park facility for the event, while helping United Way/Centraide Ottawa.
"We are thrilled to take part in this exciting event," says Janet Yale, Chair, United Way/Centraide 2004 Board of Directors. "We invite everyone to come out and enjoy the game, show your civic pride, and support your community at the same time."
