United Looks to Make It Three Straight on Saturday
May 22, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Minnesota United FC News Release
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Friday, May 22nd, 2015) -- Coming off an impressive 3-1 win last weekend in Indiana, Minnesota United (2W-3T-1L, 9pts.) looks to extend its good run of form at home this Saturday against North American Soccer League newcomers, Jacksonville Armada (3W-1T-2L, 10pts.). The Loons are riding a two-game winning streak and a two-game sellout streak at National Sports Center - it's all on the line Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CDT - fans can catch all the action live on KSTC45-TV and ESPN 3.
With three points this past weekend in Indiana and with just four matches remaining in the Spring Season, Minnesota United is still in contention for the Spring Season Championship. A win on Saturday will move the Loons into second place heading into the May 30th match with the League-leading Cosmos.
After a bit of a sluggish start to the season, the Loons have found their form and are now seeing the results on the field. "Staying switched on for the full 90 minutes has been important for us," said Minnesota United defender Justin Davis. "Early in the year, against Ottawa and San Antonio, we gave up some soft goals, so we've worked to eliminate that. It helps when the offense gets going, because it's always easier to defend when you are protecting a lead."
The Loons have moved from tenth to fourth place over the last two weeks. This Saturday's opponent, the Jacksonville Armada, has also been climbing the table, but last week's draw saw them drop from second to third. Jacksonville has been dominant at home, but struggles on the road-still searching for its first away win of the season.
The Loons are prepared for a high scoring affair this weekend against an Armada squad that has had very little trouble finding the back of the net to begin the year. The Armada have scored ten goals in 2015, and have yet to be shutout in the NASL. Kickoff this Saturday, May 23rd, is at 7 p.m. CDT at the National Sports Center Stadium.
