Omaha, NE - Week 16 has come and gone. The weekend saw the Storm come back to beat the Raptors; another buzzer beater between the Rage and BlueCats, the Extreme handed the Outlaws their first loss in almost three months, the Ice defeated the Bandits and the Beef beat the Greyhounds. The weekend also secured playoff spots for the rest of the Eastern Conference; the question now is-where will everyone end up in terms of seeding?
OMAHA 40, OHIO VALLEY 12
At Wheeling, WV
The Omaha Beef defeated the Ohio Valley Greyhounds 40-12 Saturday at WesBanco Arena. Leading the way for the Beef were LB Chris Eads and QB James McNear. Eads made five tackles, intercepted a pass and also broke up a pass. McNear completed 14 of 24 passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns; he also rushed for 55 yards and two more scores to give him five touchdowns for the game. Leading the way for the Greyhounds were LB Devin Conwell and QB Oscar Davenport. Conwell made seven solo stops, assisted on six more for a total of 10 for the game (two TFL) and ½ a sack. Davenport completed 17 of 29 passes for 120 and two touchdowns (one each to Willie Austin and Anthony Ferguson). In week 17, both teams head west as the Beef clash with the Colorado Ice in Loveland while the Greyhounds will race with the Lexington Horsemen at Rupp Arena.
RIVERCITY 41, EVANSVILLE 38
At St. Charles, MO
Once again, a game between the RiverCity Rage and the Evansville BlueCats went down to the final buzzer. Derek Kutz nailed a 25-yard field goal to win the game for the Rage 41-38 Saturday at The Family Arena. RiverCity was led by LB Joe Bevis and WR Hurtis Chinn. Bevis made a team-high eight tackles (2.5 TFL), forced a fumble and also recorded a sack; he also rushed twice for three yards. Chinn caught 10 passes for 69 yards and three touchdowns; he also returned two kicks for 69 yards with a long of 36. Evansville was led by RB Dale Jennings and DB Hunter Pingston. Jennings rushed for 26 yards and two touchdowns; he also caught five passes for 98 yards and a touchdown. Pingston made 10 solo stops, assisted on two more for a total of 11 for the game and also broke up a pass. In week 17, the Rage will become modern-day explorers as they leave the mighty Mississippi behind and head up the Missouri River to Sioux City, IA, where they'll meet the Sioux City Bandits at the Tyson Events Center. The BlueCats will welcome the Bloomington Extreme to Roberts Stadium.
SIOUX FALLS 34, ROCK RIVER 30
At Sioux Falls, SD
The top seeds in their respective conference met Saturday at the Sioux Falls Arena. The Sioux Falls Storm came back to defeat the Rock River Raptors 34-30. Leading the way for Sioux Falls were LB Mark Blackburn and QB Terrance Bryant. Blackburn made 10.5 tackles (.5 TFL) and a sack, recovered a fumble and broke up a pass. Bryant completed 11 of 22 passes for 178 yards and four touchdowns (three to Leon Hall and one to James Terry). Leading the way for Rock River were QB Jason Murrietta and DB Chris Smith. Murrietta had 225 yards of total offense (28 rush and 197 passing). Smith made five total tackles, recovered a fumble, intercepted a pass and also broke up a pass. In week 17, the Storm will welcome the Billings Outlaws to the "Storm Shelter" while the Raptors have a bye and get an extra week's preparation before the playoffs.
BLOOMINGTON 49, BILLINGS 31
At Bloomington, IL
The Bloomington Extreme got back to the .500 mark after defeating the Billings Outlaws 49-31 Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Leading the way for the Extreme were QB Dusty Burk and DL Quince Holman. Burk had 180 yards of total offense (50 rushing and 130 passing) and three total touchdowns (one rushing and two passing). Holman made 2.5 tackles (two TFL) and two sacks; he also forced three fumbles. Leading the way for the Outlaws were WR Anthony Candler and DB Ernest James. Candler had 131 all-purpose yards (13 receiving and 118 kickoff returns). James tied for the team high with 7.5 tackles and also had an interception he returned 42 yards for a touchdown. In week 17, both teams head east as the Extreme travel to Evansville, IN to face off against the Evansville BlueCats and the Outlaws head to Sioux Falls, SD to showdown with the Sioux Falls Storm.
COLORADO 61, SIOUX CITY 18
At Loveland, CO
The Colorado Ice defeated the Sioux City Bandits 61-18 Saturday at the Budweiser Events Center. Leading the way for Colorado were RB Ryan Drinkwater and their defense. Drinkwater rushed for 58 yards and three touchdowns while the Ice's defense tallied five sacks, forced a fumble, recovered two more (one for a touchdown), made three interceptions (two of which were returned for scores) and also broke up four passes. Leading the way for Sioux City were DB/KR Alex Ardley and jack-of-all-trades John Zevenbergen. Ardley intercepted a pass and also returned five kickoffs for 57 yards. Zevenbergen made two tackles, rushed five times for 14 yards, completed six of 11 passes for 48 yards and a touchdown (to John Ostermeyer) and also caught a 17-yard pass. In week 17, both teams stay home as the Ice will welcome the Omaha Beef while the Bandits will rumble with the RiverCity Rage.
