Maine Freeze News Release
(PORTLAND, ME) â On Saturday, January 18, the players of the Maine Freeze women's football team will participate in preseason fitness assessments. This will take place at the MMC Family Practice Center within the Sports Medicine Program. Shireen Rahman, the certified Athletic Trainer for the Maine Freeze and Exercise Physiologist for the Family Practice Center, will run the women through various fitness tests to evaluate cardio respiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, body fat, and concussion risk. The women will undergo a treadmill test, a skin fold caliper and circumference measurements body fat test, a grip dynometer test for strength assessment, and a timed sit-up and push-up test for muscular strength. The concussion risk test or IMPACT testing is practically a computer game. The women will play the game, receive a score and this score will be used as an individualized standard for determining return to play status if a head injury occurs.
This all day event will help the Maine Freeze players and coaches develop specific fitness goals for each player and the position she may play in the regular season. The testing will help point out areas that each player can concentrate on to improve, leading to an overall improvement of the entire Maine Freeze team. Ultimately what wins a football game is desire, persistence, and stamina to stand on the line in the 4th quarter. The fitness assessments will give the women a specific goal to work towards so they can contribute in the trenches.
