Maine Freeze Seek Second Win on Road to Connecticut
April 3, 2003 - National Women's Football Association (NWFA)
Maine Freeze News Release
(PORTLAND, ME) â The Maine Freeze Women's Full Contact Football Team hits the road in search of a second pre-season victory on Saturday, April 5 against the Connecticut Crush at Hartford's Veterans Memorial Stadium at 4:30p.m.
The Maine Freeze held the Rochester Raptors scoreless in a narrow 7-0 victory at Portland's Fitzpatrick Stadium last Saturday night. Tailbacks Jen Boudreau(44) and Becky Manson(9) took their share of carries with Manson scoring the only touchdown with 2:12 to play, and Heather Pierko(3) booting the extra point. Going into this Saturday's game, Head Coach Jason McLeod says "The team (Freeze) will review last week's game film and identify areas we need to improve on. Connecticut will be more athletically inclined than Rochester and will take advantage of any mistakes we make on either side of the ball". The Connecticut Crush defeated the Maine Freeze in all three match-ups last season.
The Maine Freeze is a member of the National Women's Football Association. The NWFA kicks off its third season on April 12 with 30 teams competing for the 2003 Championship. The league has sold 6 licenses for 2004.
Additional teams for 2004 include: Shoals SmasHers (AL), Roanoke Revenge (VA), Evansville Express (IN), Denton Stampede (TX), Dallas (TX) & Austin Outlaws (TX).
