UIF Week Eleven Preview

Omaha, NE - Week 11 is here. All games are important conference match-ups as three time zones will be represented. Sioux Falls heads back to Colorado in a week 7 re-match. Billings makes their third trip to face an I-29 team, this time at Sioux City in a week 6 re-match. RiverCity tangles Lexington at Rupp Arena in a week 2 re-match. Rock River and Ohio Valley battle for the second time, this time in Wheeling after playing in Rockford in week 7. Evansville plays Bloomington for the first time in almost a year to the day after they last met.

SIOUX FALLS (8-0) vs. COLORADO (5-3)

At Loveland, CO

These two budding Western Conference rivals met earlier in the year with the Sioux Falls Storm scoring a 49-20 win at the Budweiser Events Center May 5th. Sioux Falls, fresh off a bye week, last played May 19th at home, defeating the Omaha Beef 33-19. In that game, linebacker Mark Blackburn and running back Marques Smith led the way. Blackburn paced the defense as he tallied 10.5 tackles (one TFL), recovered a fumble, broke up two passes and returned an errant John McMenamin pass 13 yards to the house. For his efforts, Blackburn earned player of the week honors. Smith rushed 10 times for 83 yards and two touchdowns and also caught two passes for 19 yards and another touchdown. The Colorado Ice are also coming off a bye week. In their last contest, the Ice defeated Sioux City 21-12 at home on May 19th. Leading the way for Colorado were linebacker Ryan Palmer and running back Eugene Reed. Palmer made a remarkable 14 tackles (11-solo, 6-assisted) while Reed had 56 yards on the ground and two touchdowns.

BILLINGS (3-4) vs. SIOUX CITY (3-6)

At Sioux City, IA

Will the Tyson Events Center host a Wild West shootout? Anything's possible with the Billings Outlaws and Sioux City Bandits having scored 85 points in their week six clash. Last week, the Outlaws defeated the Omaha Beef 41-34 at the Omaha Civic Auditorium led by quarterback Chris Dixon and defensive back Jerry Jones. Dixon had 210 yards of total offense and five passing touchdowns while Jones registered 11 tackles and returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown. The Bandits scored an important 39-28 win over Lexington last Saturday. Sioux City was led by K Zac Gradoville and their defense in the victory. Gradoville, last week's Special Teams Player of the Week, tallied 15 of the team's 39 points (4-5 field goals and 3-3 extra points). The defense sacked Kewan Dewberry twice, intercepted him twice (both by John Zevenbergen) and broke up a pass.

RIVERCITY (5-4) vs. LEXINGTON (5-4)

At Lexington, KY

The last time these two teams played, it took overtime to finish the game. The RiverCity Rage previously defeated the Lexington Horsemen 46-39 in week two. The Rage, fresh off a bye week, last played on May 19, losing to the Rock River Raptors 55-28. In the game, RiverCity was led by running back Muhammad Abdulqaadir and defensive back Milton Proctor. Abdulqaadir rushed for 61 yards and two touchdowns as also caught a pass for nine yards. Proctor shared the team lead with seven tackles. Lexington fell to Sioux City 39-28 at Tyson Events Center. Leading the way were running back Rayshawn Askew and linebacker Eric Norris. Askew gained 74 yards on the ground and two touchdowns as Norris made 5.5 tackles (one for loss).

ROCK RIVER (5-4) vs. OHIO VALLEY (2-6)

At Wheeling, WV

The Rock River Raptors doubled up the Ohio Valley Greyhounds 50-25 when the teams met in Rockford in week 7. This time, the match-up will be played at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, WV. Last Friday, the Raptors fell to the Bloomington Extreme 54-47 in overtime. Leading the way were running back Patrick Hall and linebacker Maurice Simpkins. Hall had 100 yards of total offense (28-rushing and 72-receiving) and five of the Raptors' six touchdowns (four-rushing and one-receiving). Simpkins tallied 14.5 tackles (two for loss), broke up a pass and blocked a kick. The 14.5 tackles are a UIF season high. The Greyhounds were off last week. However, in their last game, they were defeated by the Bloomington Extreme 60-41 on May 19. In the contest, they were led by their quarterback tandem of Oscar Davenport and Freddy Ray and defensive back Robert Mason. Davenport and Ray combined to go 28-45 for 301 yards and four touchdowns. Mason contributed seven tackles and two pass break ups.

EVANSVILLE (2-6) vs. BLOOMINGTON (5-3)

At Bloomington, IL

These two teams haven't met this season yet, but played at both sites last year. The Bloomington Extreme defeated the Evansville BlueCats twice and out-scored them 105-95. The Extreme are in the midst of a five-game winning streak as they now are in first place of the Eastern Conference. The most recent win came last Friday night at Rock River where Bloomington escaped MetroCentre with a 54-47 win overtime. Leading the way were quarterback Dusty Burk and the Extreme's defense. Burk tallied 274 yards of total offense (59-rushing and 215-passing) and had a hand in all seven of the Extreme's touchdowns (three-rushing and four-passing). For his efforts, Burk earned player of the week honors. The Extreme's defense sacked Ben Sankey once, intercepted him twice (both by James Temple), forced and recovered a fumble, broke up a pass and blocked a kick. Evansville had a bye week last week. In their last outing on May 19, the BlueCats fell to Lexington 56-31. Running back Ray Kirkley rushed for three touchdowns and also threw a nine-yard strike to Levron Williams. Defensively for Evansville, Deion Holts made 5.5 tackles (two TFL), had a sack of Kewan Dewberry and blocked two kicks.
