UIF Names Week 16 Players of the Week

Omaha, NE - The United Indoor Football (UIF) Association would like to announce that Harry Lewis (LEX), Winston Taylor (BLO) and Peter Christofilakos (BLO) have been named and awarded the Week 16 UIF Players of the Week. Lexington defeated the Bloomington Extreme last weekend in a barn burner to the end to head into the playoffs by a score of 59-51. The Extreme just missed the post season and would have been the eighth seed if the UIF had went with an eight team playoff bracket this season.

Harry Lewis has been on fire all season and has helped lead the Lexington Horsemen to their 13-2 record and a second seed in this seasons playoffs. Last past weekend Lewis caught seven catches for 87-yards and crossed the goal line twice to receive UIF Week 16 Offensive Player of the Week honors. Lewis' seven catches broke the single season record for most receptions in a season which was currently held by Ohio Valley's, Willie Austin, with 66 receptions. Lewis caught 78 passes this season for an astounding 1,002 yards for 5.2 receptions per game (15 games). Lewis now holds the single season records for receptions in a season (78), receiving yards (1,002) and receptions per game (5.2). He had 23 touchdowns this season which tied him for second most in the UIF (RJ Rollins, Omaha Beef had 26). Lewis will now have a week to rest before the Horsemen host the semi-final game at Rupp Arena on Saturday, July 22, at 7:30 pm EST. Lexington will the highest remaining seed left from the first round (#3 Rock River, #4 Omaha Beef, #5 Evansville BlueCats, #6 Sioux City Bandits.)

Taking the Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season (Week 8) is Bloomington Extreme LB, Winston Taylor. Taylor finished out his first season in the UIF with 6 solo tackles, 8 assisted, two tackles for a loss of 9.5-yards and one sack for a loss of 4-yards. Taylor was the heart and soul of the Extreme defense all season long and ended the year with 106.0 total tackles (65 solo, 82 assisted) which ranked him third in the league. This was the first year of the Extreme and they finished with a 5-10 record on the year. Bloomington has beaten the Omaha Beef once and the Evansville BlueCats twice this season as both teams are currently in the UIF 2006 playoff picture.

For the third time this season (Week 8 & 11) Peter Christofilakos has been awarded the Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in Week 16. Christofilakos nailed 100% of his kicks in the Extreme loss to the Horsemen last weekend. He went 3 for 3 on field goals by hitting a 22, 25 and 41-yard field goal as well as going for 6 of 6 for PAT's. He contributed to 15 of the Extreme's 51 points. Peter also averaged 50.5-yards per kick-off on eleven kicks. For the season, Christofilakos finished fifth in points per game (9.6) and tied for third in the league in total points (144). Amongst other kickers, he ranked third in points (137), second in field goals per game (2.07) and first in field goal percentage (50.8%).

Taking honorable mention awards were: Offense, Randy Bell (ROC); Defense, Austin Flyger (SFS); and Special Teams, JT Haskins (LEX).
