BOARDMAN, Ohio - The U.S. National Under-17 Team received goals from Chris Brown (Flower Mound, Texas) and Kyle Palmieri (Montvale, N.J.), and Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) made 26 saves in a 2-0 shutout of the Marquette Rangers Saturday at the Boardman Ice Zone. With the win, Team USA improved to 1-1 in the four-game North American Hockey League Showcase.

"It was a great team effort today, and it started from the goal out," said Ron Rolston, head coach of the U.S. National Under-17 Team. "Our defensive corps kept things simple and executed well, which helped us hang on to a two-goal in a tight hockey game. We executed well to get two points against a team above us in the standings."

Brown tallied what proved to be the game-winning marker for Team USA at the 14:33 mark of the first period, thanks to assists from Zach Golembiewski (St. Claire, Mich.) and David Valek (Orem, Utah). Golembiewski sent a pass from the left wing into the slot, where Brown wristed a shot past Marquette goaltender Matt Brooker that ended up high in the top lefthand corner of the net.

Team USA added an insurance goal just 59 seconds into the second stanza when Palmieri fired a wrist shot from the left circle up high past Brooker on the glove side. David Wohlberg (South Lyon, Mich.) and Nick Mattson (Chanhassen, Minn.) each were credited with helpers on the goal.

The Rangers attempted a late comeback by pulling Brooker in the final minute of regulation, but Murray turned away several shots to preserve his team's second shutout of the 2007-08 season.

"Adam had his best performance of the year, and he made big saves throughout the game," said Rolston. "It was certainly encouraging to see him put together such a strong effort."

Brooker posted 31 saves in the loss for Marquette.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team (20-21-1) will play its third game of the NAHL Showcase against the Alpena IceDiggers tomorrow afternoon at the Boardman Ice Zone. Puck drop is slated for 12 p.m. ET.
