
U.S. Nat'l Under-17 team Shuts Out Alpena, 3-0

ALPENA, Mich. - Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) made 40 saves in his first career start to lead the U.S. National Under-17 Team past the Alpena IceDiggers tonight, 3-0 at the Northern Lights Arena.
U.S. forward Colin Reddin (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) scored the eventual game-winner 4:17 into the first period on a play from linemates David Wohlberg (South Lyon, Mich.) and Danny Kristo (Eden Prarie, Minn.). U.S. captain, Patrick Gaul (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tallied the second goal of the game with 4:21 left in the second period to give Team USA the 2-0 advantage going in to the final frame.
In the final frame Murray stopped all 17 shots he faced and defenseman Sam Lofquist (Faribault, Minn.) added an empty-net tally to earn the 3-0 victory for the U.S. National Under-17Team tonight.
"Tonight we got a great effort from the goal line out and capitalized on our opportunities offensively," said U.S. Assistant Coach Patrick Foley (Milton ,Mass.). "We have been close over the past few weeks and it is good for the guys to put it all together tonight. Hopefully, tonight gives us the boost we were looking for to head into our first overseas international event next week."
The U.S. National Under-17 Team travels to Piestany, Slovakia, on Sunday, Feb. 4, to participate in the 2007 Vlad Dzurilla Under-18 tournament.
NOTES: Murray, a 1991 birthdate, is the youngest member of the U.S. National Under-17 Team ... The Under-17 Team's leading scorers Vinny Saponari (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Jordan Schroeder (Lakeville, Minn.) are currently competing with U.S. National Under-18 Team and missed tonight's game ... National Team defensemen Ryan Grimshaw (Rochester, N.Y.) and Grant Scott (Sewickley, Pa.) continued to be out of the line-up tonight.
