IceDiggers host three more this weekend

Alpena MI: Another big weekend awaits the Alpena IceDiggers (29-11-2) as they host three games this weekend starting on Thursday versus the USA U-17 team (14-23-4) at 7:00PM. The IceDiggers defeated USA on Sunday afternoon by a score of 6-1. Ben Kitzmiller (Lambertville MI) led the way offensively with three goals recording his first Junior "A" hat trick.

On Friday the Marquette Rangers (16-21-4) come to town for a rematch of last weekends home and home series. Last Friday Marquette beat Alpena 5-3 it was Alpena's first loss against the expansion club this season. Saturday night in Alpena the IceDiggers knocked off Marquette 3-1. Mike Jarboe (Grosse Pte. Park MI) earned the win in net making 31 saves. Face off for Fridays game is at 7:00PM.

Alpena and Marquette will wrap up the two game set on Saturday at Northern Lights Arena with a special 7:30PM start time.

"We're faced with three games again this weekend, we'll need to be at our best in order to come away with the six points that are on the line." said GM/Head Coach Kenny Miller. "The good thing is we are at home in front of our fans where we've had success this season."

Alpena (60 PTS.) is currently five points behind first place Mahoning Valley (65 PTS.) with one game in hand. Marquette (36 PTS.) holds the third place position in the standings one point ahead of Traverse City (15-24-5). USA (32 PTS.) sits in 5th place in the North division three points out of the final playoff spot.

The IceDiggers have 20 games remaining in the regular season with 11 of those coming at Northern Lights Arena.

DIGGER NOTES: IceDiggers coach Kenny Miller nominated Zach Barron (St. Louis MO) 6 points, Ricardo Yesue (Allen Park MI) 4 points and Jarboe who had a 3-0 record during the week, for North division player of the week honors. Traverse City netminder Kyle Jendra won the award.
