U.S. National Team News Release

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The U.S. National Under-17 Team received goals from Kyle Palmieri (Montvale, N.J.) and Zach Golembiewski (St. Clair, Mich.) in securing a 2-1 win and series split against the Marquette Rangers at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube Saturday night.

"The guys came back with a really strong performance tonight," said Ron Rolston, head coach of the U.S. National Under-17 Team. "We played with a lot of urgency and worked hard for each other. Now we have put together four solid periods in a row, and we need to keep that going tomorrow against Alpena."

Team USA scored the only goal of the first period when Palmieri netted his 20th marker of the season, on the power play, at the 10:00 mark. Beau Schmitz (Howell, Mich.) provided the lone assist on the goal. Palmieri wristed a shot from the right corner boards that handcuffed Marquette goaltender Beau Christian, and trickled into the back of the net.

Golembiewski gave Team USA a 2-0 cushion with 44 seconds left in the second stanza when he banged in a shot off a rebound right in front of the Rangers' goal mouth. Jerry D'Amigo (Binghamton, N.Y.) notched a helper on the goal after taking the initial shot on Christian.

Marquette cut into Team USA's lead at 16:49 of the third period as Bryan Murphy converted on shot from the slot, off assists from JC Richardson and Dustin Partacz.

The Rangers pulled Christian from his net with 1:10 left in the regulation, but they were unable to record the equalizer.

Michael Clemente (Great Falls, Va.) posted 17 saves in the win for Team USA, while Christian stopped 28 shots for Marquette.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team is back in action Sunday (Feb. 24) against the Alpena IceDiggers at Northern Lights Arena. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST.
