North Iowa Outlaws News Release
The tables were turned on Saturday night as the Jr. Blues charged out of the gates at the North Iowa Outlaws and continued to fire everything on goal. Austin Maginnis and the Outlaws were again outshot badly and Springfield was able to build a three-goal lead after two periods. In the third the Jr Blues pounced on the wounded Outlaws, striking for two more power play goals, a shorthanded tally and pick a fourth up even strength to put the Outlaws away 7-0 as Phil Cook made 24 saves in the shutout.
The Outlaws lacked the jump they had in the opening period and Austin Maginnis again saw a ton of shots in the opening frame. The Jr Blues fired 19 shots at the Mason City native and found the back of the net on the power play to take a 1-0 lead after one period of play. North Iowa had a few scoring chances but Jr Blues goalie Phil Cook turned aside all eight shots he faced.
In the second it was more of the same as the Jr Blues continued to pepper Maginnis. Steve Mohler added to Springfield's lead, scoring his second of the game on a good pass from Cory Patterson in front of the net. Later in the period, the Jr Blues converted on the power play for the second time in the game Dan Wiess scored from the point on a shot that snaked its way through traffic for the 3-0 lead after two periods.
In the third period the Jr Blues special teams continued to attack. Given a power play chance, Springfield Cory Patterson found the back of the net to go with his playmaker as the Jr Blues power play went 4 for 6 on the night. Minutes later a turnover in the Blues zone gave way to a 2-on-1. Jon Gaffney let the initial shot fly which Maginnis made the save on but left the rebound sitting in the crease for an easy tap home goal by Matt Larke. Adding to his already impressive tally of points was Cory Patterson with a quick strike on the power play to make it 2 goals and three assists on the night.
Even with the power play the Outlaws struggles continues as a errant pass sent Springfield's Taylor Kennedy in on a breakaway and Kennedy made it 7-0. The North Iowa power play went 0-7 on the evening as North Iowa was outshot 49 to 24. The teams finish up the three game series on Sunday at 2:00 pm. The series finally for the season is in two weeks back in Springfield.
