COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Ryan Bourque (Boxford, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal and Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) made 44 saves as the U.S. National Under-18 Team came from behind to defeat Colorado College, 3-2, this afternoon at the Colorado Springs World Arena.
Colorado College started the game with a bevy of scoring chances before David Civitarese scored from the top of the left circle just 1:16 into the opening period. Team USA responded but was unable to solve CC goaltender Tyler O'Brien, as CC led, 1-0, at the first intermission.
The teams traded scoring opportunities to start the second stanza before Nick Mattson (Chanhassen, Minn.) got the U.S. on the board with a power-play goal at 13:55. After Jeremy Morin (Auburn, N.Y.) blasted a shot from the point, Team USA controlled the rebound and Mattson found the back of the CC net to tie the game. Colorado College scored off a cross-ice pass at 17:45, as the Tigers led, 2-1, after 40 minutes.
As both teams skated 4-on-4, Morin scored from the left circle to tie the game at 7:40 of the third period. A.J. Treais (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) pounced on a Tigers turnover at the CC blueline and sent a pass to Bourque, who scored over O'Brien's stick at 15:17 to account for the 3-2 final.
The U.S. National Under-18 Team returns to action Saturday (Feb. 21) at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube against defending NAHL Robertson Cup champion St. Louis Bandits at 3:30 p.m. EST.
