ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Brandon Saad (Gibsonia, Pa.) recorded a hat trick as the U.S. National Under-18 Team rolled past the Waterloo Black Hawks, 10-2, here tonight at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.

Team USA jumped out to a 1-0 lead 6:42 into the game when Saad collected a loose puck in the middle slot and backhanded a shot into the upper-right corner for a power-play goal. Chase Balisy (Fullerton, Calif.) doubled the U.S. advantage just 1:37 later when he jammed home a rebound from the left side of the crease. Waterloo cut the deficit in half with a power-play goal off the stick of Derek Arnold, who popped out from the right corner and wristed a shot past netminder Andy Iles (Ithaca, N.Y.) at 9:37. Adam Clendening (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) made it 3-1 for Team USA when he took a feed from Bill Arnold (Needham, Mass.) and snapped the puck over the C.J. Groh's glove at 18:06. Iles made 11 saves in the opening period.

Team USA came out storming in the second stanza with four goals before the half-way point. Jason Zucker (Las Vegas, Nev.) knocked home a rebound from the left side to start the scoring barrage just 2:31 into the period. With the U.S. shorthanded, Luke Moffatt (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) picked up Frankie Simonelli's (Bensenville, Ill.) off-the-boards pass in the neutral zone, skated across the blue line and wired a shot off the cross bar and in to make it 5-1 at 5:37. After Moffatt's tally, Groh was replaced in net by C.J. Motte. Justin Faulk (South St. Paul, Minn.) one-timed Clendening's feed from the left point under Motte for a 5-on-3 power-play tally at 9:34. Just 13 seconds later and with Team USA still on the power play, Saad jammed the puck through Motte's legs to give the U.S. a commanding 7-1 lead. Iles stopped all seven shots he faced in the second.

Just 1:04 into the final frame, Saad completed the hat trick when he snapped the puck inside the left post from inside the right faceoff circle to make it 8-1. Saad earned another point just 29 seconds later when he fed Austin Czarnik (Washington, Mich.), who snuck a shot under Motte's right arm. Brady Vail tallied a power-play goal for Waterloo at the 8:18 mark to make it 9-2. Team USA got to double digits after Cole Bardreau (Fairport, N.Y.) threaded a pass to Faulk, who one-timed it inside the left post for his second power-play tally of the night at 12:17.

Iles closed out the night with 25 saves.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team is back in action Sunday at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube when it meets defending Clark Cup champion Indiana Ice at 3:05 p.m. EST.
