MARQUETTE, Mich. - The U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to Northern Michigan University, 6-2, here tonight at the Berry Events Center.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period before Chris McCarthy (Collegeville, Pa.) narrowed the gap for Team USA at 15:05. The goal came after McCarthy broke into the Northern zone and fired a wrist shot over netminder Devan Hartigan's glove.

In the second stanza, Mark Olver made it 3-1 after he rushed into the U.S. zone and fired a shot that beat netminder Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) high-glove side at 7:41. With 28 seconds remaining in the frame, Jared Brown gave NMU a three-goal advantage.

Just 57 seconds into the final period, Ryan tallied his team-best fourth shorthanded marker when he poked the puck in after Hartigan misplayed it in front of his own net. Then with Hartigan pulled in favor of an extra attacker during a delayed penalty, Olver added his second goal to make it 5-2 at 2:47. Ray Kaunisto recorded a power-play marker at 9:12 to account for the 6-2 final.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team next travels to East Lansing, Mich., on Tuesday (December 16) to meet the Michigan State Spartans at 7:05 p.m. ET.
