U.S. Nat'l U17 Team Falls to Mahoning Valley, 2-1

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Jack Campbell (Port Huron, Mich.) recorded 34 saves and Stuart Higgins (Troy, Mich.) tallied as the U.S. National Under-17 Team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Mahoning Valley Phantoms here tonight.

After a scoreless first period, Mahoning Valley took the lead in the second frame at 11:30 as Johnny Meo grabbed a rebound and put the puck past Campbell for a power-play goal. Team USA tied the game after Luke Moffatt (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) attacked from the right side and had his backhand attempt blocked by netminder Jordan Tibbett. Higgins then shoved the puck into the open net from the slot with just 36 seconds remaining in the period.

In the third stanza, Jordy Trottier took a pass from Doug Clifford and beat Campbell on the right side to make it 2-1 with 3:32 remaining in regulation.

Team USA faces Mahoning Valley again on Saturday night at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. ET.

NOTE: Jack Campbell has made 254 saves during the year and has a save percentage of .907. Both marks lead the team ... The U.S. National Under-17 Team out shot Mahoning Valley by a 38-36 margin.
