Rangers Derail Machine

Wyandotte - The Marquette Rangers Tier II Junior A hockey team continued their winning ways on their three game road swing through Lower Michigan; claiming a 4-1 win over the Motor City Machine at Yack Arena in Wyandotte.

Marquette defeated Alpena 2-1 Thursday night before heading to suburban Detroit.

Garrett Ladd scored twice to lead the Rangers attack offensively Friday night. With the win Marquette is now alone in third place in the North American Hockey League North Division with 30 points, two points ahead of the U.S. National Team Development Program who lost 2-1 Friday to Mahoning Valley in Ann Arbor.

The Rangers now trail Traverse City by three points in the NAHL North Division race, and first place Mahoning Valley by four points heading towards the holiday break. The Rangers travel to Mahoning Valley for two games next weekend.

Last night, the Rangers led early and never looked back.

Former Machine defenseman Reed Rushing scored the Rangers first goal on the night with a power play marker at 4:27; assists went Marquette native James Gallagher and Aaron Pietila. Rushing's goal would be the only goal of the first period.

Marquette made it 2-0 at 10:30 of the second period on another power play goal, this one from Chad Peitila with Rushing and Scott Henegar picking up the helpers for a two goal Rangers lead after two after 40 minutes.

Then it was Ladd's turn, scoring the first of his two third period goals at the three minute mark with Collin Saint-Onge and newcomer Colin Smith adding the assists. Smith and Saint-Onge would also add assists on Ladd's second goal which put the game out of reach with 13:15 remaining in the game.

For the second consecutive night, Rangers goaltender Kevin Kissaw saw his shutout bid ruined late in the third period; this time by Motor City's Ryan Misiak who scored a power play goal at 14:45.

Kissaw, playing his second consecutive start wound up stopping 26 of 27 Motor City shots on the night; while his counterpart Mathew Delaney faced 31 Rangers shots, stopping 27 of them.
