ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Will Yanakeff (Jerome, Mich.) stopped all 15 shots he saw as the U.S. National Under-17 Team shutout the Marquette Rangers, 4-0, here tonight at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
Team USA took a 1-0 lead 5:33 into the game when Austin Czarnik (Washington, Mich.) grabbed a rebound on the right side off of a shot by Kevin Clare (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and slid the puck into the lower right corner. Jacob Fallon (Southlake, Texas) also received an assist on the play. Team USA extended the lead when Matthew Nieto (Long Beach, Calif.) picked up a loose puck between the circles and slipped it between netminder Kevin Kissaw's legs at 15:06.
In the second period, the U.S. stretched the lead to 3-0 when Michael Mersch (Park Ridge, Ill.) fired a quick wrist shot from just above the circles into the upper left hand corner at 4:48.
Justin Faulk (South St. Paul, Minn.) gave Team USA the 4-0 lead at 15:10 of the final frame. Faulk snapped a shot past the glove of goaltender Matt Brooker after receiving a pass from Czarnik from behind the net.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team is back in action tomorrow against Marquette at 7 p.m. ET at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
