BLAINE, Minn. - The U.S. National Under-18 Team completed the North American Hockey League Showcase a perfect 4-0-0 tonight by dropping the Alexandria (Minn.) Blizzard by the count of 3-1 at Schwann's Super Rink.

The Blizzard jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Rylan Galiardi batted home a loose puck on the power-play 2:29 into the game. After peppering Alexandria net minder Dustin Carlson all period long, James vanRiemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) was able to slip one past to knot the game at one with 26 seconds remaining in the period.

Team USA gained its first lead of the game when Ryan Hayes (Syracuse, N.Y.) beat Carlson off a feed from Matt Rust (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) on the power-play, 8:34 into the second period. Hayes returned the favor to Rust 6:40 later in the second period to give the U.S. the 3-1 advantage at the end of two frames.

Both teams were held scoreless in the final frame, led by the strong play of both goaltenders. Josh Unice (Toledo, Ohio) was sharp in goal tonight for Team USA, turning aside 13 of 14 Blizzard attempts to earn his second victory of the season.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team will open the home portion of its schedule this Friday (Sept. 22) night versus the Mahoning Valley Phantoms of the NAHL at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
