U.S. National Under-18 Team Travels to North American Hockey League Showcase

THIS WEEK: The U.S. National Under-18 Team travels to the North American Hockey League Showcase in Blaine, Minn., from Sept. 19-22. Team USA will play four games in as many days against NAHL opponents. The team opens the 2007 Showcase against the Texas Tornado on Wednesday (Sept. 19) at 8:30 p.m. CDT followed by a Thursday matinee game against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Team USA faces off against the Topeka Roadrunners at 6:30 p.m. and concludes the Showcase on Saturday against the Southern Minnesota Express at 4:45 p.m.

U.S. HEAD COACH JOHN HYNES: John Hynes is in his fourth season with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. He has amassed a career record of 128-86-8-7 (W-L-T-OTL). Hynes will serve as head coach of the U.S. National Junior Team that will compete at the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2007 - Jan. 5, 2008 in Liberec and Pardubice, Czech Republic.

U.S. HEAD COACH JOHN HYNES ON THE WEEK AHEAD: "We are looking forward to the challenge that four games in four days will present to us. We'll be going up against some tough opponents that will provide a great test for us early in the season."

U.S. NATIONAL UNDER-18 TEAM NOTES: The U.S. National Under-18 Team is composed of 21 players from last year's U.S. National Under-17 Team. New additions to Team USA include goaltender Joe Cannata (Wakefield Mass) and defenseman David Warsofsky (Marshfield, Mass.). Warsofsky made an immediate impact in his first game with Team USA when he assisted on Jordan Schroeder's (Lakeville, Minn.) game-winning goal against the Chicago Steel last Saturday (Sept. 15) ... Schroeder's goal was the third game-winner of his NTDP career ... Forwards Patrick Gaul (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Danny Kristo (Eden Prairie, Minn.) each recorded multiple-point games against the Steel with a goal and an assist apiece.

TIDBITS: This is the fifth year for the NAHL Showcase ... The 2007 NAHL Showcase will be played at the Schwan Super Rink, the largest ice facility of its kind in the world with eight sheets under one roof ... The U.S. National Under-18 Team finished 4-0 at the 2006 NAHL Showcase, as they knocked off the St. Louis Bandits (3-2), Texas Tornado (11-1), North Iowa Outlaws (8-0) and Alexandria Blizzard (3-1) ... All four games will be broadcast live on the internet via the B2 Networks. The cost for viewing the games is $6 and a link to the broadcasts is available on the NTDP page at usahockey.com.

UP NEXT: The U.S. National Under-18 Team will host NAHL North Division-rival Mahoning Valley Phantoms next Friday (Sept. 28) at 7:30 p.m. EDT and Saturday (Sept. 29) at 7:00 p.m. at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.

ALUMNI UPDATE: Adam Hall (Kalamazoo, Mich./1997-98) has signed a tryout deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Hall has played in 306 National Hockey League regular season games with the Nashville Predators, New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild, acquiring 49 goals and 53 assists for 102 points. Hall also has appeared in 14 playoff games, accumulating four points (3-1). His best professional season came in 2005-06 when he tallied 14 goals and 29 points in 75 games for the Predators.

ABOUT THE NTDP: Founded in 1996, USA Hockey's National Team Development Program was created to prepare student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation on U.S. National Teams and success in their future hockey careers. Its efforts focus not only on high-caliber participation on the ice, but creating well-rounded individuals off the ice. Located in Ann Arbor, Mich., the 46 players in the program are split into two squads - the U.S. National Under-18 and Under-17 Teams. In the nine years NTDP players have been eligible for the draft, 141 players have been selected, including the number one overall selection in 2000 (Rick DiPietro), 2006 (Erik Johnson) and 2007 (Patrick Kane).
