
U.S. National Under-18 team prepares for Four Nations Tournament

U.S. National Team News Release
THIS WEEK:
The U.S. National Under-18 Team will enjoy a weekend off before traveling to Kuortane, Finland, to participate in the 2005 Under-18 Four Nations Tournament. Team USA will face Switzerland, Sweden and tournament host Finland.
U.S. HEAD COACH JOHN HYNES:
John Hynes is in his third season with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. Hynes has spent time as an assistant coach at the University of Massachuttes Lowell and the University of Wisconsin. He was also an assistant coach at Boston University and with the NTDP. Hynes has amassed a career record with the NTDP of 75-40-7.

"This tournament will be an opportunity for us the gauge where we measure up at this point in the season against teams we may see in April at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Under-18 Championships."

PROGRAM ALUMNI UPDATE:
On Friday night (Oct. 28) University of Alaska Fairbanks goaltender Wylie Rogers (Fairbanks, Alaska) lead the Nanooks to a 4-2 victory over the top-ranked Michigan Wolverines, turning away 34 of 36 shots ... Colorado College forward Brett Sterling (Pasadena, Calif.) continues to lead the nation with 16 points (8-8) in eight games ... Rookie defenseman Brett Lebda (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) was recalled by the Detroit Red Wings from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League ... University of Notre Dame freshman goaltender Jordan Pearce (Anchorage, Alaska) was named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week for his shutout performance against Princeton University on Saturday (Oct. 29). Pearce stopped all 27 shots, as the Irish snapped their school-record 22-game winless streak with a 2-0 victory.
TIDBITS:
Team USA faced Switzerland twice last season in under-17 competiton, including a 10-3 victory at the Four Nations Cup on Nov. 10, 2004, and a 6-6 tie at the Vlado Dzurilla Four Nations Tournament on Feb. 12, 2005. Team USA faced Finland most recently at the World Under-17 Challenge on Jan. 3, 2005, and won, 9-2.
LAST WEEKEND:
The U.S. National Under-18 Team faced perennial college hockey powerhouse Boston Univeristy on Sat., Oct. 29, and Northeastern University on Sun., Oct. 30. It took Boston University over 64 minutes to top Team USA in overtime on Saturday, 3-2. The following night, Team USA earned a 1-1 tie at Northeastern University.
