U.S. National Team News Release
GENESEO, N.Y. - Despite goals from Chris McCarthy (Collegeville, Pa.) and Kenny Ryan (Franklin Village, Mich.), the U.S. National Under-18 Team dropped a 3-2 decision to SUNY Geneseo here today.
McCarthy put Team USA ahead late in the first frame, when he collected a rebound off of a David Valek (Orem, Utah) shot and flicked the puck over down-and-out netminder Jeff Pasemko at 16:39.
In the second stanza, Ryan poked home a rebound goal of his own just 37 seconds in. McCarthy and Drew Shore (Denver, Colo.) each recorded assists on the play. Geneseo came back at 3:18 with a power-play goal off the stick of Jake Yard. Just 3:42 later, Jonathan Redlick made it 2-2 for Geneseo.
Just 1:48 into the final period, Clint Olson found himself alone in front of the U.S. net after Jimmy Powers' dump in took an odd bounce off the boards and right to Olson who put it into the open net. Despite pouring 17 shots on goal in the closing 20 minutes, the U.S. was unable to solve Pasemko, falling 3-2.
U.S. netminder Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) made 22 saves on the afternoon.
