U.S. National Under-18 Team Dominates Switzerland

KUORTANE, Finland - The U.S. National Under-18 Team (1-1-1) defeated Switzerland (0-2-1), 6-0 to finish in second place at the Under-18 Four Nations here Saturday afternoon.

Six different players scored for Team USA while Joe Palmer (Yorkville, N.Y.) earned his second shut out of the season. All six USA goals were scored at even-strength.

Team USA came out of the gate flying and dominated the first period, outshooting the Swiss, 22-1. Switzerland goaltender, Lukas Flueler stopped all 22 U.S. attempts to keep the game scoreless after the first period.

James O'Brien (Maplewood, Minn.) got the scoring started for Team USA, 8:27 into the second frame. Tony Mosey (Prior Lake, Minn.) and Bill Sweatt (Elburn, Ill.) also tallied in the second period for Team USA.

To start the third period, Switzerland changed goaltenders looking to spark the team. Defenseman Mike Ratchuk (Buffalo, N.Y.) beat the new Swiss goaltender just 1:36 into the third period to push the USA lead to four. Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Mike Carman (Apple Valley, Minn.) finished the scoring for Team USA to cap off a six goal effort.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team will travel to Orono, Maine next Saturday (Nov. 19) to take on the fourth-ranked University of Maine Black Bears. On Sunday (Nov. 20) Team USA will take on the Atlantic Junior Hockey League All Stars in Portland, Maine.

NOTES: Patrick Kane led the Four Nations Tournament in points (1-3) and assists (3) ... Team USA faced Sweden, Finland and Switzerland in this Four Nations Tournament ... Later this season, the U.S. National Under-18 Team will participate in another Four Nations Tournament (Feb. 5-13) in Russia.
