
U.S. National Under-17 Team Travels To Cleveland To Continue Playoffs

U.S. National Team News Release
THIS WEEK: The U.S. National Under-17 Team will travel to Parma, Ohio, to continue its second round playoff series versus the Cleveland Barons. Games three (Apr. 21), four (Apr. 22), and five (Apr. 23) will be played at Lakefront Lines Arena (Parma, OH). Games three and four will begin at 7: 30 p.m. and game five is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. This best-of-seven series is the North American Hockey League's north division final and is for a berth in the Robertson Cup National Championships.
U.S. HEAD COACH RON ROLSTON: Ron Rolston is in his second season with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. He has amassed a career record with the NTDP of 78-37-11. Rolston was an assistant coach in the collegiate ranks at Lake Superior State University, Clarkson University, Harvard University and Boston College prior to joining the NTDP. Rolston has been selected to lead the 2007 National Junior Team that will compete at the 2007 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship December 26, 2006 - January 6, 2007, in Leksand and Mora, Sweden.

U.S. HEAD COACH RON ROLSTON ON THE WEEKEND AHEAD: "We look forward to a strong week of practice so that we can hopefully have our best effort when the weekend rolls around. It's going to be a tough three game set down in Cleveland and we are going to have to play at a very high level to give ourselves a chance to win."
PLAYER NOTES: John Albert (Concord, OH) and David Kolomatis (Basking Ridge, NJ), are expected to be out of the lineup for games three, four, and five with undisclosed injuries... USA forward Justin Vaive (Buffalo, NY), who has been out of the line-up due to injury, is probable to return this weekend... Forward Phillip McRae (Chesterfield, MO) is listed as day-to-day... Goaltender Josh Unice (Toledo, Ohio) has a 4-1 record in this year's playoffs and has stopped 103 of the 109 shots that he has faced. Unice's playoff goals against average stands at 1.19.
PLAYOFF TIDBITS: The U.S. National Under-17 Team will be without its four leading scorers (Ryan Hayes, John Albert, James vanRiemsdyk, and Colin Wilson) and top-scoring defenseman (Cade Fairchild). Hayes, vanRiemsdyk, Wilson and Fairchild are currently skating with the U.S. National Under-18 Team at the 2006 World Championships and Albert is out of the line-up due to injury ... USA defensemen David Kolomatis is also out of the line-up due to injury ... The winner of the USA/Cleveland series will advance to the NAHL National Championships in Boardman, Ohio, and will play for the 2006 Robertson Cup. The national championships begin on May 10.
LAST WEEK: The U.S. National Under-17 Team began its second round playoff series by hosting the Cleveland Barons. In game one the National Team fell behind 2-0 before rallying for a 3-2 victory in overtime. USA defenseman Colby Cohen (Villanova, PA) deflected a Joseph Lavin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) blast from the point past the Baron's goaltender at the 2:59 mark of the extra frame to give his team a 1-0 lead in the series. The following night Cleveland evened the series by beating the National Team 2-1. Forward Mike Cieslak (Penfield, NY) had the lone goal for Team USA with a shorthanded tally in the first period. NTDP ALUMNI UPDATE: University of Denver junior defenseman Matt Carle (Anchorage, Alaska) was awarded the 26th Hobey Baker Memorial Award. Carle becomes the second NTDP alum to win college hockey's highest individual honor, joining 2002 Hobey winner Jordan Leopold (Golden Valley, Minn.). Carle, A real estate and construction management major, carries a 3.30 grade-point average and was a WCHA All-Academic Team honoree. He participates annually in the "Skate with the Pioneers" event for terminally ill children and has volunteered at the Alaska Food Drive and a holiday children's charity drive... Three NTDP alumni finished in the top 10 in Hobey Baker voting (Greg Moore- Maine, Matt Carle- Denver, Brett Sterling- Colorado College) ... Nine NTDP alumni participated in this year's NCAA Frozen Four (Boston College-3, Wisconsin- 4, North Dakota-1, Maine-1) ... 16 of the 17 players from last season's U.S. National Under-18 Team that attended college this season participated in the NCAA tournament, not including two players (Ferriero-BC, Rau- CC) whom were added to the team for the Under-18 World Championships. ... Seven NTDP alums participated in this year's NCAA Division I Hockey Championship Game (Boston College-3, Wisconsin-4). Included on the 2006 National Champion Wisconsin Badgers roster is alums Jake Dowell (Eau Claire, WI), Robbie Earl (Los Angeles, CA), Jeff Likens (Barrington, IL), Jack Skille (Madison, WI), and Head Coach Mike Eaves, who served as NTDP Head Coach from 2000-2002.
