U.S. National Under-17 Team Falls to North Stars

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Traverse City North Stars (11-17-4) of the North American Hockey League dropped the U.S. National Under-17 Team, 4-2 tonight at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.

The North Stars opened the scoring eight minutes into the game on a goal from Jared Mullen during a Traverse City flurry of action in the USA zone. Colin Wilson (Greenwich, Conn.) scored his 13th goal of the season for Team USA on a feed from Mike Cieslak (Penfield, N.Y.) to tie the game at one 4:43 into the second frame. Travis Paeth gave the North Stars the 2-1 lead 6:31 later in the second as he buried a shot past USA goaltender Josh Unice (Toledo, Ohio).

Mid-way through the final period Traverse City scored again on a two-on-one to push the spread to 3-1. Forty-four seconds later, USA defenseman A.J. Sturges (Madison, Wis.) notched his second goal of the season on a blast from the point to cut the North Star advantage to one at 3-2.

Traverse City ended the U.S. hopes with an empth-net goal with 12 seconds remaining to earn the 4-2 victory. U.S. goaltender Unice stopped 21 of 25 North Star shots on the night.

Tommorow night the U.S. National Under-17 Team will seek revenge against the North Stars at 7 p.m. back at the Ice Cube.

NOTES: USA forward Justin Vaive (Buffalo, N.Y.), defensemen Kevin Shattenkirk (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and David Kolomatis (Basking Ridge, N.J.) all missed tonight's game due to injury, all three are expected to miss tomorrow night's game.
