The US National Under-18 Team is in Sweden for the U-18 Five Nations Tournament, set for February 6-14. The US will face teams from Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, and Sweden

The US National Under-17 Team will also be participating in international play in Piestany, Slovakia, February 6-14. The Vlado Dzurilla Classic will put the U-17s against Under-18 teams from Germany, Slovakia, and Switzerland.

Friday, February 4, 2005 â USA 5, at Youngstown 2
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO. â The U.S. Under-18 Team continued their winning streak (10 games) with a 5-2 victory in Youngstown, Ohio, against the Youngstown Phantoms last Friday evening (Feb. 4). Leading all scorers was Jack Skille (Madison, Wis.) with three points (2G, 1A). Phil Kessel (Madison, Wis.) answered with a power-play goal and an assist, and Mark Mitera (Livonia, Mich.) assisted on two-goals, which aided in the 5-2 victory over the Phantoms. U.S. goaltender Jeff Frazee (Burnsville, Minn.) stopped 29 of 31 shots.
U-17
Thursday, February 3, 2005 â USA 4, at Toledo 3
TOLEDO, OHIO. â The U.S. Under-17 Team defeated the Toledo Ice Diggers on the road, 4-3, on Thursday (Feb. 3). Michael Carmen (Apple Valley, Minn.) started off the scoring at the 4:27 mark of the first period. Other goal scorers included Steve Sperry (South Lake, Tex.), Chris Atkinson (Sparta, N.J.), and Trent Palm (Edina, Minn.). Kevin Montgomery (Rochester, N.Y.) had a two-point evening (2A). U.S. goaltender Brett Bennett stopped 33 of 36 shots.
NOTES
Phil Kessel (Madison, Wis.) passed R.J. Umberger ('99-'00) and is now second in career points for the National Team Development Program (NTDP). Kessel had two points (1G, 1A) against the Youngstown Phantoms Friday (Feb. 4). He now has 134 career points for the NTDP. R.J. Umberger ('98-'00) is at the number three spot with 132 points.
Kessel has improved his all-time goal lead by five. He has 78 NTDP career goals for the number one spot, while Andy Hilbert ('97-'99) comes in at number two with 73.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team competes in its third international tournament of the 2004-2005 season (PieÅ¡Âany, Slovakia). In international play, the U-17s are 8-1-1. At the Four Nations Tournament in Rochester, N.Y., this past November, the U-17s went 4-0 beating Russia in the finals by a score of 5-2 (Nov. 13). The U.S. National Under-18 Team is participating in its second international event in '04-'05 (Tjörn, Sweden). The Under-18s are 4-0 in international play. They swept the Four Nations Tournament beating Sweden 1-0 in Ann Arbor, Michigan (Nov. 12). Game results from tournament play in Tjörn, Sweden, can be found on the Internet:
