U.S. National Team News Release
UNITED STATES NATIONAL UNDER-18 TEAM
The U.S. Under-18 Team opened the college portion of the 2004-2005 season with a 2-2 tie against the Clarkson Golden Knights in Potsdam, N.Y. on Saturday, October 2 and a loss to the St. Lawrence Saints, 3-2, in Canton, N.Y. on Sunday, October 3.
NEXT ACTION
The U-18 Team travels to Marquette and Houghton, Mich. to take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats and the Michigan Tech Huskies respectively on Friday and Saturday, October 8 and 9, 2004.

Saturday, October2 â US-18 2, Clarkson 2
The U-18 team tied the Clarkson Golden Knights, 2-2, in the first college game of the season for USA in front of 2,341 fans at Cheel Arena Saturday night in Potsdam, N.Y.
Clarkson took the lead to open the game when Jay Latulippe (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored off a backhand shot at the top of the crease. Just 58 seconds later, the U.S. capitalized and evened the score on Zac MacVoy's fourth goal of the season.
After a scoreless second period, the U.S. went on top with Ryan Stoa's power-play marker at 4:46 to start the third. The Golden Knights tied the game with a Latulippe power-play goal with just 1:40 to play in the game.
The Knights out shot USA, 44-40 as Billy Blase (Santa Monica, Calif.) posted 42 saves for the red, white and blue.

Sunday, October 3 â US-18, 2, St. Lawrence 3
The St. Lawrence Saints defeated the U-18 team 3-2 at Appleton Arena Sunday afternoon handing U.S. its first loss of the season.
The U-18 trailed 2-0 as the Saints opened the scoring in the first period when freshman Charlie Giffin tipped in a rebound of a shot by Colin FitzRandolph and John Zeiler (in the second period) took a rebound of a shot from the slot by Josh Anderson and put it back past US goalie Jeff Frazee (Burnsville, Minn.) on a Saint power play. Jason Lawrence (Saugus, Mass.) got the U.S. on the board with his scored his fifth goal of the year, sliding a rebound back past Saint senior goalie Mike McKenna. T.J. Trevelyn once again gave the Saints a two-goal cushion with a marker at 14:59 of the third period. Peter Mueller (Bloomington, Minn.) scored his third of the year with the U.S. team skating with a two-man advantage on a power play and an extra attacker with an empty net at 18:08 to push the final score to 3-2.
"The Under-18 team is a very talented and very fast team," said Saint coach Joe Marsh.

UNITED STATES NATIONAL UNDER-17 TEAM
The U.S. Under-17 Team went 1-2 on the week as they fell twice to the to the Toledo IceDiggers, 5-3 on Tuesday, September 28 and 6-3 on Friday, October 1. The U-17 team earned its win on the week as they defeated the Cleveland Barons 4-3 on Sunday, October 3.

Tuesday, September 28, 2004 â Toledo 5, US17 3
The U-17 team dropped it first contest of the early season at the hands of the Toledo IceDiggers 5-3 on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube, Ann Arbor, Mich. The U-17 club fell into a 5-1 abyss early into the third period before fighting back to within two with a pair of goals in the latter part of the final period.
Brian Strait (Waltham, Mass.) tallied the first goal for the U.S. ripping a shot past Toledo goaltender Justin Marriott (Ontario, Calif.). Toledo, who had scored the opening goal of the game on a Ricardo Yesue (Allen Park, Mich.) tally, reeled of four straight goals after the Strait score to push them to a four-point advantage.
Jim O'Brien (Maplewood, Minn.) and Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.) each scored in the second half of the third period to cut the Toledo lead in half. IceDigger goaltender Marriot would keep the U-17 team at bay in the final minutes to preserve the 5-3 win for Toledo.

Friday, October 1, 2004 â US-17 4, Toledo 6
The US-17 Team dropped their second consecutive game to the Toledo IceDiggers, this time on the road this ppast Friday.
Luke Popko (Skillman, N.J.) and Steve Sperry (South Lake, Texas) staked the US to a 2-0 lead scoring with in three minutes of each other in the first period. The IceDiggers followed with four unanswered scores as Kaliegh Schrock (Fort Wayne, Ind.) scored twice during the goal-scoring burst.
Popko scored his second of the game in the second period while Erik Johnson (Bloomington, Minn.) closed the tallies for the U.S. with his second goal of the season.

Rhett Rakhshani (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored a game winning power play goal with just :16 left in the game to lift the USA to a 4-3 win on the road against the Cleveland Barons.
Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.) recorded his second goal of the year while Greg Squires (White Plains, N.Y.) and Ryan Flynn (Lino Lakes, Minn.) each tallied their first makers of the season
Goaltender Joe Palmer (Yorkville, N.Y.) earned first star honors on the night as he turned aside 42 of 45 shots to garner the win.
