U.S. National Team News Release
UNITED STATES NATIONAL UNDER-18 TEAM
The U.S. Under-18 Team, playing at a Five Nations Tournament in Finland, finished the event with a 1-1-0-2 record. The US squad defeated Finland, 5-1, lost two-shootout contests, Sweden (1-2) and Russia (5-6) respectively. The only loss of the event was a 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Czech Republic. Defenseman Jason DeSantis (Oxford, MI) finished the event with 3 points tying him for first among all tournament defenseman. Tom Fritsche (Parma, OH) ended the tournament tied for the lead in goals scored (4) and tied for fourth in points with six (4-2). Matt Auffery (Evans, Mills, NY) led the event in shooting proficiency as he scored twice on three shots (66.67). Joe Grimaldi (Ronkonkama, NY) tied for the sixth best plus/minus with a +3.
FIVE NATIONS TOURNAMENT â Czech, Finland, Sweden and Russia
Wednesday, Feb. 4 â Sweden 2, USA 1 SO
US National Team Development Program Under-18 team opened the Five Nations event with a 2-1 shootout loss against Sweden earning a point in the standings.
Phil Kessel (Madison,WI) scored for the lone US goal, tying the game at one, at the 11:22 mark of the second stanza. Nathan Gerbe (Oxford, MI) recorded an assist on the play. The US gave up a power play goal just :19 into the second period before the Kessel score. Following regulation a one-shot shootout ensued. Bryan Lerg (Livonia, MI) came up short in his bid, while Nicklas Bergfors scored to give Sweden the win.
Chris Carlson (Plainfield, Il) recorded 23 saves on 24 shots, while Jordan Pearce (Anchorage, AK) entered the game with under six minutes to play in regulation, following an injury to Carlson, and recorded two saves on two shots in regulation.

Thursday, Feb. 5 â Russia 6, USA 5 SO
Tom Fritsche (Parma, OH) scored a game tying shorthanded goal, his second, in the second period as the U.S. National 18 Team fought back from a 5-3 deficit to tie Russia 5-5 earning a regulation tie (1 point in the standings).
Fritsche, assisted by Chad Kolarik (Abington, PA), scored his first of two goals at 1:37 of the opening period. Following a Russian power play goal by Adgur Dzhugenia the U.S. notched its second of the game as Phil Kessel (Madison, WI) scored his second goal of the event with an assist going to Jack Johnson (Fairbault, MN).

Russia scored four of five goals, Jason DeSantis (Oxford, MI) scored the US goal, giving the Russians a 5-3 lead. Bryan Lerg (Livonia, MI) tallied on the power play power play goal and the Fritsche shorthanded score evened the game at five.

The US-18 Team fell to the Czech Republic squad 5-1. Geoff Paukovich (Englewood, CO) scored his tenth goal of the season giving the U-18 team a 1-0 first period lead. Jack Johnson (Fairbault, MN) picked up an assist on the goal.
The Czech team recorded two goals in the second and three in the third period led by Jakub Sindel's two even strength goals to give them the final 5-1 score.
Jordan Pearce (Anchorage, AK) was saddled with the loss recording 27 saves.

Saturday, Feb. 6 â Finland 1,USA 5
Tom Fritsche (Parma, OH) had two goals and an assist as the U-18 team defeated the Finland squad 5-1. Matt Auffery (Evans Mills, NY) started the scoring for the US, the first of his two-goals on the night, as he tallied a power-play score at 5:20 of the first period.
Fritsche followed, three minutes later with his first of the night. Jarod Palmer (Fridley, MN) recorded his first goal (a shorthanded score) of the event in the second period. Auffery and Fritsche each notched their second goals of the game, in the second period to give the US the final four-goal margin.

UNITED STATES NATIONAL UNDER-17 TEAM
The U.S. Under-17 Team, won the 2004 Vlado Dzrullia Four Nations (U-18) Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia. The U-17 Team defeated, Switzerland, 4-2, Germany 2-1 and Slovakia 4-2 to earn the title. John Kemp (Arcadia, CA), Ryan Stoa (Bloomington, MN) and Brandon Scero (Canton, MI) led the US in scoring, tying them for second overall at the event. David Inman (San Diego, CA) was the event leader in plus/minus with a +6. Jeff Frazee (Burnsville, MN) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Goaltender and was the event leader with a .938 save percentage and total saves with 92.
VLADO DZRULLIA U-18 FOUR NATIONS TOURNAMENT â Switzerland, Germany and Slovakia
Thursday, Feb. 5 â Switzerland 3, USA 4
Nick Foligno (Hummelstown, PA) scored the game-winning goal with just 3:41 left in the third period capping off a three-goal US third period outburst. The three goals erased a 3-1 Switzerland lead a to lift the U-17 team to a win in their opening game of the 2004 Vlado Dzurilla Tournament.
The U-17 team, playing in a U-18 event, trailed by two entering the third period before Peter Mueller (Bloomington, MN) recorded a shorthanded score followed by an even strength, Ryan Stoa (Bloomington, MN) tally.
Brandon Scero (Canton, MI) opened the scoring for the US with a power play goal in the second period. Scero led all scorers in the game with a goal and two assists. Jeff Frazee (Burnsville, MN) earned the win recording 27 saves on 30 shots.

The US National Team U-17 squad defeated Germany, 2-1 setting up a championship game against tournament host, Slovakia. US goaltender Jeff Frazee (Burnsville, MN) turned aside 28 of 29 shots earning his second and the teams second win at the Four Nations Tournament.
Defenseman David Inman (San Diego, CA) opened the game scoring, as he tallied his second of the season, with a power-play goal in the second period. Four minutes after Germany's only goal, Seth Seidman (Milton, MA) answered for the US with an even strength score assisted by Ryan Stoa (Bloomington, MN)

The US National U-17 Team beat the host nation Slovakia, 4-2, to win the U-18 Vlado Dzurilla 2004 Tournament title
Trailing 1-0 in the second period US forward John Kemp (Arcadia, CA) scored twice in just over three minutes and assisted on Ryan Stoa's (Bloomington, MN) game winning goal.
Zach MacVoy (Livonia, MI) added an insurance goal in the third period while Jeff Frazee (Burnsville, MN) turned aside 37 shots to record his third win of the event.
