
U of O and Grant HS standout is living his dream - selected by LumberJax in sixth round

University of Oregon and Grant High School graduate, Daniel Ernst, was selected by his hometown team the Portland LumberJax with the 64th pick overall in the 2005 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft Monday night. Ernst was a senior standout with University of Oregon lacrosse with 34 points (23 goals, 11 assists) in 15 games. The Portland native will look to earn a permanent spot on the LumberJax roster during team tryouts to be held in October.
Ernst was the fifth of five selections made by the LumberJax on Monday, including Brodie Merrill from Georgetown University at number one overall, Aaron Bold from Victoria Junior A at 29th overall, Jed Prossner from the University of North Carolina at 45th overall, and Shane Chalker from Victoria Junior A at 56th overall.
Ernst was Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League (PNCLL) Most Valuable Player in 2004 as a Duck and a 1st Team All-State (Midfield) in 2001 as a standout player at Grant High School.

The Portland LumberJax (www.PortlandJax.com) were founded on May 11, 2005 as an expansion franchise in the National Lacrosse League, which features the best lacrosse players in the world. LumberJax are owned by the youngest majority owner in professional sports, 24-year-old Angela Batinovich, who relocated permanently to Portland, OR from California. The LumberJax are one of 11 teams in the NLL and will play eight of the sixteen regular season games at the Rose Garden, which is owned by Portland Arena Management LLC.
