Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
(Wilkes-Barre, PA) The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are excited about the return of one of their top wide receivers from their 2007 American Conference Championship team, Tyreak Saviour!
The 5'11 195 pound Saviour tied for the team lead with 21 touchdown catches last year and snagged three balls in the end zone during the 2007 ArenaCup championship game. Despite missing some games due to injury, Saviour's big play potential needed to be accounted for on the field at all times, he averaged 13.5 yards per catch in pulling down 66 receptions for 880 yards in the regular season. Tyreak specialized in the spectacular grab all year making some unbelievable catches and ending up with two Cutters Catch of the Game awards.
"Tyreak had an outstanding year last year. He came up big in big games. I'll be looking for him to build on last year's success for an even better 2008, "said Head Coach Rich Ingold.
The Pioneers were also assigned 6'2 265 pound DL Andrew Marsteller out of East Stroudsburg. Marsteller played last year with the af2's Laredo Lobos where he only saw action in a few games, but showed pass rushing ability in those games with a pair of sacks, along with a forced fumble, a pass break-up and a fumble recovery.
"Andrew is a local kid, who has been a very productive pass rusher. We love guys like him that get after the quarterback." said Ingold.
The arenafootball2 offices also assigned 5'10 202 pound David Rogers out of Virginia State.
"David is another guy who looked like a stud at the Philadelphia Soul tryout. With defensive backs coach Jake Grande working with him, he could be great in the middle for us," stated Coach Ingold.
