Rochester Brigade News Release
(Rochester, NY)- Today, head coach/general manager Mark Saunders announced that DS Tyrea Simmons was placed on long term IR and will be out for the remainder of the season.
Simmons suffered a torn ACL last week against the Mohegan Wolves. On the first defensive play of the game, he jumped up for an interception before landing awkwardly on his right leg.
"This is an unfortunate injury for us...Tyrea has been improving each week and making huge strides for us," stated Saunders on Simmons injury. "He was a force at the DS position and we will feel his loss."
In four games played on the season, Simmons recorded eight solo tackles, three passes defended, one interception and forced one fumble. To fill the void, Saunders has been assigned DS Harry Brunson from the arenafootball2 league office in place of Simmons.
Brunson, 6-0, 200, played his collegiate football at Bowie State from 1998 to 2001, and appeared in one game for the Norfolk Nighthawks earlier this season. While at Bowie State, he registered 152 tackles (89 solo), six tackles for a loss of 22 yards, eight interceptions for 193 yards, one sack, 16 passes defended, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
This week the Brigade hosts the Greensboro Prowlers on Friday, May 24, at the Blue Cross Arena for a 7:30 pm kickoff. Plenty of good seats still remain! Call the Brigade office at 585-292-1530 to reserve your tickets, or check out the team's website at www.rochesterbrigade.com.
