Tynan Debuts Hot, Marksmen Topple Dawgs in Overtime

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Tucker Tynan stopped 34 shots in his SPHL debut and the Fayetteville Marksmen rallied to beat the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs 4-3 in overtime at the Crown Coliseum Friday.

The Marksmen did something they hadn't been able to do so far this season to open the game- took a lead against the Rail Yard Dawgs. Fayetteville took advantage of a broken play from Roanoke when Simon Boyko intercepted an errant pass into the Dawgs' end. Boyko (7) slipped in behind the defense to create a 2-on-0 with Cam Cook (5) who finished off the play at 10:47 to give the home team a 1-0 lead. Cook (12) and Boyko (10) weren't done for the night as later in the frame, Max Johnson (6) started a sequence into the zone that resulted in a 2-0 goal. Cook worked to be the first on the puck behind the net and fed it to Boyko in front, who finished it off with 2:49 left in the frame.

Neither team would find the back of the net in the second frame, but not for lack of opportunities. Fayetteville's penalty kill was tasked with nearly 50 seconds of a 3-on-5 sequence halfway through, but they held strong, and newly signed netminder Tynan stopped all 15 shots he faced in the second to keep it 2-0 heading into the third.

Roanoke roared back to begin the final regulation frame, and scored two goals in a 30-second span to tie things up. Minutes later, the Dawgs made it 3-2. Dalton Hunter (3) tied the game from Connor Fries (4) and Kyle Soper (11) with just 2:15 left in the third period, ultimately forcing overtime.

After another successful penalty kill, Fayetteville was given an opportunity on the powerplay that it capitalized on. Brendon Michaelian (8) drew attention to himself on the near wall before passing to Johnson (7) at the point. Johnson took a slap shot that created a rebound for Cook (6) to bury, cementing the 4-3 win with 61 seconds left in overtime.

The Marksmen and Dawgs will rematch Saturday, December 9 on Peanuts Night at the Crown Coliseum. Fans are encouraged to bring unopened packs of socks and underwear to throw onto the ice after Fayetteville scores its first goal, in a donation drive to local shelters.
