Washington Stealth News Release
Everett, Wash. - The National Lacrosse League has announced that two Washington Stealth players, Lewis Ratcliff and Matt Beers, have been added to the West Division roster for the 2012 NLL All-Star Game on February 25 in Buffalo, N.Y.
Ratcliff takes the place of Stealth forward Rhys Duch, who suffered an upper body injury last weekend, and Beers will represent the Stealth in place of Paul Rabil, who was traded from the Stealth last week.
Ratcliff will be making his sixth All-Star Game appearance on Saturday night. Ratcliff has 29 points (14g, 15a) in six games this season, including 20 points (11g, 9a) in his last three games. The Victoria, B.C. native was named a second team NLL All-Pro in each of the last two seasons and was the MVP of the 2010 NLL Championship Game. He was named the MVP of the 2006 NLL All-Star Game, scoring four goals, including the game-winner, as a member of the West All-Stars.
"It's awesome to get the opportunity to play with the great players around the league," said Ratcliff. "I have some great memories from All-Star Games in my career, scoring the game-winner with three seconds left is one, but getting the chance to play with Gary Gait is something I'll never forget."
Beers will be taking part in the All-Star Game for the first time in his three-year career. A member of the 2010 NLL All-Rookie Team, the young defenseman has had a solid start to the 2012 season, already setting a career-high with three goals. He's also added four assists and 17 loose balls in six games. He had a career day against the Philadelphia Wings on January 21, recording two goals and an assist.
"I was really surprised when I was told," said Beers, who has become a fan favorite among the Stealth faithful. "It's pretty unreal to hear my name alongside the best players in the game -- guys that I have looked up to for a long time. It's going to be an incredible experience."
The 2012 NLL All-Star Game takes place on Saturday, February 25 at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:30pm PST and can be seen live on ESPN3 in the United States and the NLL Network at NLL.com in Canada.
