Two Walk Offs, One Day: Stallions Sweep Outlaws in Doubleheader

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - The Saugerties Stallions broke out in a big way on Thursday with two walk off wins in a doubleheader at Cantine Field.

During the opening game, the Stallions found themselves in an early 2-0 hole before third baseman Brandon Fish launched a game-tying home run in the first inning making it the second straight game he's gone deep.

TJ Adams knocked in another run on a single in the next inning but that would be the last run scored by the Stallions until the sixth inning.

Down 6-3, the Stallions rallied for the first of many times on the day with the big hit coming off the bat of David Shackleford who launched a three-run homer to tie the game.

The Stallions would take a 8-6 lead into the seventh inning but after Mason Speaker gave up two runs to tie the game, an extra inning would be required to decide a winner.

Oneonta scored two runs in the top half and got the first two outs of the bottom half of the inning quickly before the Stallions loaded up the bases for Garrison Berkley who ripped a single to bring in the winning run, capping off an 11-10 victory.

Just a half hour later and both teams were back on the field for round two and the Stallions found themselves in a much bigger hole than the game prior.

Starting pitcher Noah DeLuga struggled early as four runs were scored against him during his three innings of work and reliever Jack Walker allowed two runs during his first inning of work as a Stallion.

Down 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Stallions went to work to cut the deficit and scored five runs capped off by doubles from both Shackleford and Cody Kelly.

Oneonta got two runs back in the top of the seventh inning off of Stallions reliever Praxie Vigil to further increase their lead now up to 8-5 headed into the bottom part of the inning.

The Stallions quickly loaded the bases with no outs in the inning with two singles and a hit by pitch to bring up Jahlani Rogers.

Rogers brought in two runs on a single of his own to bring the Stallions within one and after a bunt from Berkley and Fish was walked to load the bases, Jake Skrine came up to the plate with every intention to avoid another extra inning game.

Skrine did just that with a rocket out into the gap to bring in the final two runs in a long day at Cantine Field and the Stallions came away with a 9-8 win to sweep the doubleheader.

The Stallions will stay at Cantine Field on Friday to host the Glens Falls Dragons at 7:05 p.m.
