
Two Out Rally Leads Racers Past Diamonds

Kissimmee,FL--- The NPF Diamonds lose to the Akron Racers 4-2 in their home opener on Friday night. The 2010 Pitcher of the Year, Lisa Norris, led the way for the Racers with 8 strikeouts against another strong performance by Diamonds' rookie pitcher Morgan Melloh.
Akron would get on the board first in the top of the second inning. Micaela Minner and Nicole Pauly led off the inning with back to back singles. Sharonda McDonald doubled to bring in Miner giving the Racers a 1-0 lead.
The Diamonds would answer back in the bottom of the third with a two run homer from Brianna Hesson. Biannca Mejia reached on a single and then Hesson, the University of Georgia standout, hit a deep shot over the fence in the left center gap putting the Diamonds ahead 2-1 going into the fourth.
A two out rally in the bottom of the fourth would recapture the lead for the Racers. After two quick outs, Courtney Bures, Sharonda McDonald, and Lisa Modglin would all single bringing Kelley Montalvo to the plate. Montalvo plated Bures and McDonald with a single. Modglin then scored on a wild pitch giving the Racers a 4-2 lead at the end of four innings.
The Diamonds had a chance in the sixth after Megan Gibson and Angela Findlay led off the inning with back to back singles, but were unable to push any runs across.
