Thorson, Racers Shutout Diamonds
June 18, 2011 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) News Release
Kissimee, FL -- The NPF Diamonds fall to the Akron Racers 5-0 Saturday evening. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader has been rescheduled due to rain. The teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow night beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The Racers wasted little time before getting on the board. With two outs in the top of the first inning, Taylor Schlopy homered putting Akron up 1-0. This would prove to be the only run Racers pitcher Kristina Thorson would need.
After two innings of scoreless action, Micaela Miner led off the fourth inning with a single. The next batter Nicole Trimboli hit a RBI double to bring the score to 2-0 Akron.
The Racers would continue the scoring in the fifth. Lisa Modglin roped a leadoff double that was followed by a Kelley Montavlo single and a Schlopy walk. With the bases loaded, Miner drove in Modglin with a single.
Akron added two insurance runs during the top of the seventh inning. A Montavlo walk followed by back to back singles for Miner and Trimboli would load the bases for Jessica Williams. Williams plated two with a double.
While the day belonged to the Racers, Kristen Schnake went 3-for3 from the plate for the Diamonds.
Kristina Thorson earned her first win of the season as she scattered four hits and struck out three. Megan Gibson took the loss for the Diamonds.
The two teams will square off again tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 6:00 p.m. For more information on the Diamonds visit diamondsnpf.com.
