Two Mudbugs Named to CHL All-Star Game
December 30, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Two players will represent the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the 2008 Central Hockey League All-Star game hosted by the Rocky Mountain Rage in Broomfield, Colorado . Goaltender John DeCaro and forward Daniel Pegoraro today were named to the Northern Conference team when the All-Star rosters were filled out by the league. Starters for the North were announced on Friday.
"We are certainly proud of these two for what they've accomplished," said Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "Both of them are second-year guys who put up great numbers last season and are doing it again this year. We're very happy to have these two players representing us in the All-Star game."
DeCaro will make his second consecutive All-Star appearance in 2008. The 6-3, 208 pound goaltender is 10-4-2 this year and ranks second in the CHL with a 1.98 goals-against average and .931 saves percentage. DeCaro's five shutouts lead the league this season and are just three behind the all-time CHL record of 8 shutouts by a goaltender in a single season. The Marysville, Washington native was named Sher-Wood CHL goaltender of the month for November, going 6-0 with a 1.00 GAA and .965 spct. Also during that month, he recorded back-to-back shutouts and teamed with Ken Carroll to set a new CHL record for consecutive shutout minutes at 218:57. In last year's CHL All-Star game, hosted by the Mudbugs, DeCaro played the first period for the victorious Northern Conference.
Pegoraro will make his first career All-Star appearance this year. In 27 games this season for the Mudbugs, the Toronto, Ontario native has six goals and a team-leading 17 assists for 23 total points and a +10 rating. The line of Pegoraro, Joe Ori and Tyrel Lucas has been one of the Mudbugs' most consistent scoring threats all season long. The 5-8, 188 pound center has scored one game-winning goal and assisted on three others this season as well. Last year in his rookie season with Bossier-Shreveport, Pegoraro finished third on the team and seventh among all CHL rookies in scoring with 52 points.
The 2008 CHL All-Star game is coming up on January 16th at the Broomfield Events Center , home of the Rocky Mountain Rage, in Broomfield, Colorado . Opening faceoff is set for 7:05 pm and the game can be viewed online through the CHL Network.
