Portland Thunder News Release
PORTLAND, OR - AFL veteran wideout Jeffrey Solomon and former North Texas defensive lineman Kenechukwu (K.C.) Obi have been assigned to the Portland Thunder.
"It's nice to pick up a guy like Jeffrey, who is a big-play receiver and clearly knows how to play Arena Football. We're ready to put him in a position to show what he can do - I don't think he's had that opportunity yet," said Head Coach Matthew Sauk. "K.C. is a beast on defense and can get after the quarterback out there, cause pressure, and create turnovers for us."
Solomon (6-0, 205) is a two-year AFL veteran. In the last two seasons with the Spokane Shock, Solomon compiled 58 receptions for 728 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also added an onside kick return for a touchdown and five tackles and an interception on the defensive side of the ball. He played college football at Washington State University, where he totaled 42 receptions for 534 yards and a touchdown in two seasons.
Obi (6-2, 250) recorded 12 sacks and 132 tackles in his career at the University of North Texas, where he was named to the All-Sun Belt Freshman Team by Rivals.com. As a senior at UNT, he received the team's Bill Bishop Award as the Mean Green's Outstanding Defensive Lineman.
To make room for Solomon and Obi, the Thunder have placed offensive lineman Isaac Morales on reassignment.
The Portland Thunder will kick off its inaugural season at the Moda Center on Monday, March 17th when they take on the San Jose SaberCats. Season tickets are available for purchase starting as low as $99 by calling 503-773-4AFL or by visiting www.portlandthunder.com.
