December 28, 2015 - Arena Football League (AFL) - Portland Thunder News Release

As a courtesy to Meadow Lemon, may the following statement serve in place of any interview requests regarding the passing of his father, George "Meadowlark" Lemon. Meadow has requested that the family's privacy be respected at this time.

Statement from Meadow Lemon:

"We (our family) shared him with the world. He (Meadowlark) helped entertain hundreds of thousands over his career, living the life he wanted, around the game he loved. We are thankful he left peacefully."

"He was a true showman, and always taught me to leave a crowd wanting more, and I can say that's exactly how I feel right now. He was put on this earth to make people smile, and that is what sports is all about. He never lost that connection to the fans."

"His legacy was making people smile, and we hope you smile with us today as we reflect on his life."

"We're going to miss him."

Meadowlark, who was deemed the "Clown Prince of Basketball", was a member of the Harlem Globetrotters for 24 years, appearing in over 16,000 games across 100+ countries, and was a 2003 inductee to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Meadow Lemon served as the Portland Thunder's Director of Football Operations and General Manager through the 2014 AFL season, after assisting in the club's formation and awarding of the franchise to Portland a year prior. Lemon also served in a consultant role for the Thunder during the 2015 season, before being named as the head coach of the San Angelo (TX) Bandits of the CIF in September, 2015.
