Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- Looking for a turning point to get on a roll, the Rockford IceHogs might have found one on Wednesday night. The IceHogs rallied to top the Fort Wayne Komets 3-2 at the Rockford MetroCentre, propelled by two third period goals.

Trailing 2-1 in the latter stages of the third period, center Kevin Ulanski fired in his ninth tally of the season after the face-off deflected back to him at 14:52. Then at 17:26, after Ulanski won another face-off in the Komets zone, winger Jesse Bennefield snuck in his 12th marker of the campaign past goalie Kevin St. Pierre off of a Mike Letizia rebound. The Komets would pull St. Pierre but could not solve Hogs goalie Frederic Cloutier the rest of the way.

Rockford had to battle back twice in the game. Down 1-0 in the second period, center Preston Mizzi tied the score before the break when he slapped in his 10 goal of the season on a 5-on-3 power play at 19:55. Both of Fort Wayne's goals came off of redirects. Defenseman Kevin Hansen potted his first goal of the season in the opening period at 8:48 after his shot from the point deflected off of an IceHogs skater and past Cloutier. Winger Matt Syrocynski tipped in the Komets second lamp lighter at 3:07 of the third period, deflecting in a Mike Dombkiewicz shot.

The IceHogs outshot the Komets 32-26 in the game and Cloutier earned the win making 24 saves. Both teams netted a goal on the power play as the Hogs went 1-for-6 and the Komets 1-for-7.
