Two Ice Players Honored by USHL

March 25, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release

INDIANAPOLIS- The accolades keep piling up for the Indiana Ice as the team announced today that forward Brian Pinho and goaltender Hayden Stewart have been named the USHL Players of the Week for their respective positions.

Pinho and Stewart were instrumental in last weekend's three-game sweep that helped the squad secure first place in the Eastern Conference playoffs race and take the lead for the Anderson Cup. Similar to the NHL's President's Cup, the Anderson Cup is awarded to the team with the highest regular-season points total.

The weekend started slow, but steady for Pinho as the North Andover, MA-native recorded an assist in Friday's 5-0 thumping of the Muskegon Lumberjacks at L.C. Walker Arena. The Washington Capitals prospect then exploded in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Youngstown Phantoms with his first natural hat trick. Pinho closed out the weekend with a pair of goals against the Lumberjacks in front of a Sunday crowd of over 5,000 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Pinho has been one of the hottest forwards in the latter part of the season as the Providence college commit has recorded 22 points (13G, 9A) in his past 14 contests, including two games with three or more points in his past five games. Through 54 contests this year, Pinho ranks second on the team in goals (25) and points (25).

Stewart's unprecedented start with Indy continued through the weekend as the Rockford, IL-native recorded wins in both of his starts to improve to 12-0-0 with the Ice. He halted all 15 shots in Friday's 5-0 win at Muskegon to log his fourth shutout of the 2013-14 campaign and set a new franchise record for consecutive wins (12 and counting), previously held by former netminder Jon Gillies-Providence (HE). Stewart then bested 23 of 25 shots on Sunday to down the Lumberjacks 5-2 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

The Cornell University commit has been the bane of Indy opponents since joining the Ice roster in January, allowing only ten goals in 12 starts. In 25 total contests this season, Stewart sits second among league goaltenders in GAA (1.98), save percentage (.924) and shutouts (5).

Pinho, Stewart and the Indiana Ice are on the road this weekend for parts one and two of a three-game series with the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Friday's game is set for 8:05 pm while Saturday's start time is tabbed for 8:35 pm.

Hockey returns to the "Circle City" on Wednesday, April 2 as the Ice host Dubuque for "College Night" from Pan Am Pavilion at 7:05 pm, presented by Howl at the Moon.

Indy closes the book on the 2013-14 regular season home schedule on Friday, April 4 as the team hosts the Green Bay Gamblers for "Hockey For Heart Night," presented by St.Vincent Heart Center. The puck is set to drop at Bankers Life Fieldhouse at 7:05 pm.

Individual and group tickets are on sale for all remaining 2013-2014 Indiana Ice home games. For more information, call the Indiana Ice at (317) 925-4423.
