Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - On Monday, the Washington Nationals announced two former Hagerstown Suns as additions to their 40-man roster. Leonard Davis, who played for the Suns in 2007, and Luis Atilano, a 2008 Suns alumnus, are both making their first stops on a Major League roster.
Leonard Davis, a third baseman in Hagerstown who has since moved to the outfield, was named the 2008 Minor League Player of the Year for the Nationals. Splitting time between three levels (High-A Potomac, Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Columbus), Davis compiled a .308 batting average with 25 home runs, 76 RBI, a .364 on-base percentage and a .566 slugging percentage. With the Suns in 2007, Davis hit .290 with 16 home runs and 56 RBI in 96 games. Davis was also named to the 2007 Mid-Season All-Star Team for the South Atlantic League Northern Division.
Luis Atilano, a right handed pitcher out of Puerto Rico, also spent time at three different levels in 2008. Atilano made his 2008 debut with the Suns on April 25th , and went on to post an impressive 3.16 ERA in seven outings, including three starts, with Hagerstown. Upon promotion to the High-A Potomac Nationals, Atilano continued to shine, as he finished the season with a 2.32 ERA in 62.0 innings with Potomac. Add in the right hander's two impressive outings in Harrisburg, and Atilano finished the season with a cumulative 5-3 record and 2.50 ERA in 24 appearances including 15 starts.
Davis and Atilano join three other former Suns on the National's 40-man roster: outfielder Justin Maxwell, catcher Jesus Flores and pitcher Marco Estrada.
